You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So, we've got 24hr and 12hr events; what are opinions on doing an 18hr event? Thinking of Erlestoke12....ooops problem there...
We still get comments about how Set2Rise was great, 6pm to 6am and finishing around sunrise etc etc; but at the end of the day we had to change to get numbers up and make the event viable.
SPAM is only a small club, we'll struggle with volunteers to put on and marshall the event; so don't want to go out to 24hr. But, we won't start to break down and tidy up until 6 or 7 in the morning anyway - so, let racing continue? Finish at 6 with a big bacon roll!
Firstly, I love the Erlestoke 12. It's one of my favourite events of the year and IMO the noon til midnight format is fine, I really like finishing with a dark lap.
18 hours wouldn't be for me but I can see how some may like it. I know you have some access issues with the MOD but would there be any legs in putting on another event later in the year?
I much prefered the 6pm to 6am format, something about starting a ride, watching the sun set - continuing through the night and seeing the sun rise, really made the whole experience
not sure if 18hrs would work (alright, not sure my legs would last!)
as for volunteers, perhaps speak to other local clubs (BCC?)
I'm sure MBSwindon could put a group of volunteers together too.
I like it. I've long thought an 18 hour event would be a good idea.
If you can ride for an hour, you can push yourself and ride for three hours.
If you can ride for three hours, you can push yourself and ride for six hours.
If you can ride for six hours, you can push yourself and ride for twelve hours.
It's a hell of a jump from 12 to 24 though.
Several events mix up long and short races, so there's no reason why you couldn't have a 12:00 to 24:00 12 hour, a 12:00 to 06:00 18 hour, a 18:00 to 06:00 12 hour and three 6 hour races all going on at the same time.
Given our usual strong showing at Erlestoke12 I'll bet we (BCC) could muster a few volunteers if you find yourselves short 🙂
It's one of our favourite events.
Should have said would run options for timing, all 18hrs, noon start for 12hrs, 6pm start for 12hrs, and 6hr options as last year......just to really confuse the timing guys 🙂
Have spoken with BCC/MB Sw' in the past regarding reduced/free entry if they help out.
Totally agree with the cap'n; I liked the 'experience' of the sun going/coming back. Been on the other side of the fence, organising, last couple of yrs so haven't entered as such, just got a few laps in.
It's a hell of a jump from 12 to 24 though
very good point, I have been put off 24hr solos because of exactly this
I also like the idea of staggered starts so the maximum number of people finish together (not sure any of the 6 hour folk would want to start at midnight tho!)
18hr could be a good target time for those looking for 24hrs later in the yr, Mountain Mayhem in mid June now or Bonty
The 650b of endurance events, I'm in. 😆
Love it, tag line sorted! will pass the royalties back to you if we go that way 🙂
