I have a 2017 Spesh Enduro 29.

At the moment it is running sweet with a Lyrik up front that has a Luftkappe and Fast damper.

Out back is a Monarch+RC3 Debonair that has had the Tractive gubbins done to it. It gives a stable platform that I can push against rather than the over linear feel that the original set up had.

To be honest I'm loving it and it is riding lovely.

I never get the last 50mm of fork travel but don't get harsh bottom outs and I'm probably enjoying it staying up in it's travel.

So why change anything? Because I'm curious by nature and I'm always looking to develop the bike. Plus I have a month planned in the Alps and think a coil set up would offer reliability.

So I've been toying with the idea of a Smashpot in the fork.

My concern is that the bike will then feel unbalanced.

So who is running a coil front, rear or front and rear on their '17 Enduro and how is it going.

I would appreciate analytical reviews rather than 'it's awesome'.

My riding style is aggressive trail and Enduro, I weigh around 198lbs in riding kit.

Current air set up is stable with as much mid stroke support as I can get without taking away grip, I like corners.

Many thanks.

I get the same issue with the Luftkappe,it seems to want to sag the fork deeper its travel at recommended pressures .So to counter this I use more air than recommended to keep the front end riding higher where I prefer it,but then it doesn't use it's full travel and looses it's benefits of better bump absorption hmmmmmm. Did your Lyrik originally have the newer Debonair spring with the bigger neg chamber? If not that may be worth considering as an option for around £30,I know I am.

I’m running a ‘16 enduro with coils front and back. I’m 110kegs and love riding the rough stuff like a hooligan.

The back has a CCDB coil, front currently a marzocchi coil. IMHO, the bike sits more in the mid travel area of the suspension and holds the bike up better than air shocks. Much better traction over the chattery stuff, and holds up in berms much better. Pop off lips and jumps is better as the coils don’t pack down as much on take off.

Ive just got a (cheap from CRC) Yari, which I’m having a smashpot and YariUp fitted to, so I’m looking forward to see what difference that makes.

I’m a little biased, as my trail bike (stumpy) also has front and back coils.

I have run this bike with an air fork too, which was ok... but I wouldn’t return to air on the back, the coil is waaaay better.

Hello Lee

No, no Debonair spring.

I think I'm going to go Smashpot, had a play on a mates coil fork today and I like the grip, felt good.

Will then see if the bike feels unbalanced.

Lardman, you don't have an issue with the linear nature of the Enduro leveraged ratio with a coil? My concern would be that avoiding bottom outs might negate the plushness and grip that the coil is there for.

I don’t find the linear rate to be a problem. I rarely bottom the shock, but I prefer to save the last bit of travel for the ‘emergency lines’ anyway, so run a spring which is quite firm. Almost no preload means a very supply first half of travel. With the CCDB coil, I have both high and low speed circuits for compression and rebound, so can have the set-up just how I like it.

I have a 180mm travel ‘evo’ Model enduro, so have plenty of travel available.
