Toying with the idea of trading in the Bronson for a nice(ish) hardtail. I'd like not to have to replace the Transfer I recently bought, can anyone shed some light on the options?

I'm looking for a nuuu skool geometry hardtail, preferably in steel (but not a deal breaker) with boost rear, tapered (not 44mm) headtube, 650B, stealth routing for dropper.

The BTR Ranger is the bike I have come across which ticks the most of my boxes but it's too spendy. I'd be looking at up to £800 but no more, and it would need to be a bit special for that amount.

The switchback looks OK but £700 with no 853 for a far east made frame? I don't get it. Also 30.9mm post.

Does such a beast exist?

The Stanton switch back is a great bit of kit  I’m really impressed with the handling .

Another Bird Zero AM vote here! Lovely bike, very good customer service. It's not steel, but with a decent set of tyres on you won't miss a steel steed.

That Bird ticks a lot of boxes. I can't come to terms with the look of it unfortunately. I'm a tart.

The 631 Switchy may not be 853, but uses more semi posh steel, than just say one 853 tube. Also I used to have a 631 Slackline and the ride comfort of the Switchback is leagues ahead. Perhaps the thinner 30.9 seat tube helps.....

Don't you come peddling that common sense around here!

I'm quite taken by the chroma wideangle, and that is less posh steel again. Much more special though.

Closest I can think of is a Cotic Bfe. Ticks most boxes but is 44mm head tube though. Any reason this is a deal breaker?

edit: just spotted it's a 142mm rear end.  😟

I'd have said the new Bird Zero AM Boost as well. If it's just the colour/graphics, have it repainted?

Edit: Sick Bike Co hacksawsurgeon fits the bill (pics show a 44mm headtube but description says tapered) exactly.

I don't know if it's the same for the transfer, but last time I changed frame, the outer tube of my dropper was only £30.

Another vote for the Stanton.

Isn't 631 just 853 without the heat treatment? It’s also full Reynolds 631 front end with a 525 rear end. The finish etc is very very good for a Far East frame (it’s got better welds than the uk built FS prototype).

If the 31.6 steatbpost is an absolute must have treat yourself to the Ti version.....😉

Not possible on the Transfer. Worth baring in mind if you're looking at buying a dropper perhaps.

£1850? They were clearly pissed when they came up with that RRP.

I really want to like Stanton, their bikes look great and clearly ride well but their pricing is all over the shop IMHO. What can they do the Sherpa and slackfline in 853 at a price point that they can't hit with the switchback? Plus £700 is quite a lot in any case. I still keep visiting their site, but I just can't bring myself to press buy.

Pace RC127+ is close but with slightly shorter fork travel. Had a look at the recently and their premise is more mid-skool than nu-skool  though (cough, LOL etc)

Lots of very nice plus bikes out there unfortunately. The Last fast forward, PD Moxie, Chameleon. Terrible shame.
