On a road bike - One chain and sprockets? Possible?

Yes, although I'd expect them to be fairly worn by that stage.

I managed around 60000 miles on my last lot.

60,000 miles? On the same chain and cassette?

On my commuter I usually get about 3000 miles

Yip. It got beyond the stage of just changing the one thing quite early on so I just decided to keep on going with the same stuff until I started getting problems with it. That's how long problems took to arrive.

If been riding bikes for 17 years and I haven't got that many miles in full stop, never mind on one bike/drivetrain...

possible in good conditions I would think.

I managed 12,000 on one chain/chainring and freewheel on a SS commuter, but that was ridden in shitty conditions all year round, and to be honest I could have kept going a bit longer but it was just time to do a refresh.

So, if it was kept well lubed, and not subjected to regular grinding paste and road salt conditions I think its perfectly do-able.
