My sons friend asked if I would fit a new disc brake to his DMR jump bike. Put it all on but the rotor was too far inboard by about 5mm. I measured the gap between the drop outs and it was 140mm. The are horizontal drop outs and a Halo DJD single speed hub.
It seems like the hub was for 135 spacing but had end caps to fit the 140 frame, thus the disc was not in the right place with reference to the disc mounts. As if it needed a spacer behind the rotor to push it out a bit
Not really dealt with 14mm axles and jump bikes before, anyone explain it to me please?
It is a second hand bike and my son's friend had taken off the rear disc it came with, but it seems the previous owner had used washers between the frame and caliper adapter to push it out
Thanks Chris
What frame is it? Should be 135mm spaced at the back.
2014 Transition I think. Hub fits snugly although there is a gap on non driveside between bearing cover and end cap. I didn't know if with 14mm singlespeed hubs if 140 was a standard width. I wondered if the gap was normally covered by a spacer as DMR seem to sell spacers for using hubs on different widths.
If 140mm is not right perhaps the end cap is not on right and the previous owner has bodged it in.
140mm is not correct. DMRs have always been 135mm AFAIK. The spacer things are probs axle adaptors that let you run 10mm axles in 14mm frames, I used some in my old DMR. They don't change the width of the spacing though.
Just put the wheel in as standard, no weird spacers and it should be ok. There will probs be a little gap, but this will disappear once you torque the axle nuts up!
