Do you need to shim the rotor over too ?
I've fitted a Hope 148mm boost kit to a Pro4 hub and the kit came with a couple of thin spacers. Are these really needed or is it a case of try and see as in one or both ?.
I obviously need to set up the wheel prior to fitting it, but how do you know exactly when to fit one or both. And im inherently lazy and cant really be arsed fitting the rotor bolts, find it isnt a good spacing, then taking it off, fitting one, trying that, off again, add the other, refit etc
So any experience of who found what would help and save me faffing about and losing my already thin patience.
Rotor will need a spacer.
That Hope kit has added 3mm to either end of your axle. Your brake disc is now 3mm further inboard than it should be. If your brake calliper can be adjusted that far you can get away without using any spacers. Perhaps it can’t be adjusted that far but you can get away with one spacer. Or just stick 3mm of spacers on along with the supplied bolts and the disc will be as close to where it should be as it’s going to get. You will still probably need to adjust your calliper a bit because nothing is ever that precise.
Thanks Zippy, and RB, a good clear answer. Makes sense.
The spacers I thought looked about 1mm each, but i think if I put the measuring stick on them they would add up to 3mm.
I'll fit both, see how it all sits. As you say, never going to be 100% correct straight off, and a bit of adjustment on the caliper will be required.
Cheers
I had the velopace kit when i did this. 2x3mm spacers on the axel (one at either side) and a 3mm behind the disc. Worked perfectly.
