Hi all,
The son has got a Trek x-caliber which is fitted with a boost qr rear wheel. It would appear the standard skewer is rather rubbish as it keeps backing off? I'll do it up nice and tight so the lever is difficult to close but after a bit of use the lever seems really easy to open, as if it's skipped a thread or something? This has actually resulted in the wheel pulling out the dropouts on a couple of occasions, luckily no crashes due to it yet.
I think I just want to replace it but don't think I want to trust a Trek option again. Choices seem massively limited when it comes to boost QRs. I can find a Hope 1 but if anyone can suggest a better alternative that would be appreciated.
Has anyone else had a QR "soften"?
Probably not a massive help, but my daughter has a Roscoe with this arrangement. No problems with the rear QR. I did wonder if wheel suppliers would have these as replacements, but then maybe not as they aren't the most common hub standard?
Any reason a 142mm qr won't work?
142mm is 12mm thru-axle rather than 5mm QR.
Hope make a 141 QR skewer specifically for boost QR, unlikely to be in stock online but any Hope dealer can order for you, the part number in black is QRSNR141
Yes of course
I'll have to check my parts box as the spark frame used to come with x12, x10 and qr hangers. Pretty sure they shipped a longer rws QR with that frame set.

Which, if its anything like their 100/135mm QR's from BTID will be a bit pants, but look pretty.
Maybe the nut and skewer have been contaminated. I had a saddle clamp that kept coming loose no matter how much I tightened it, a through clean and it’s been fine since. Maybe a bit of Loctite.
This Shimano skewer on SJS?
Or I think the skewers that come with wheel-on turbo trainers are longer than normal so would probably work.

The Trek ones are just a poor design where they slacken off if the lever moves off horizontal. A friend has a Trek with one of these skewers and I couldn't find anything better to replace it with.
That Shimano skewer is the one you want.
Yes, Shimano skewers every time, and if that’s a boost one which it looks like it is…
Shimano and Campagnolo skewers work really well. The sort with exposed cams can be lighter but often work much less well IME. If you can find a longer Shimano or Campag go for that. Alternatively 'security' wheel skewers that do up with an Allen key work well.
SL2000, that's the 1. Ordered. I was thinking Shimano would be best option from history but couldn't find it. Kept searching for 141mm QR, that comes up as 142 but will fit.
The boy can go back to jumping safely now...
