You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I have a set of 2013 Fox Floats, that, despite the good advice given here they still dont feel as good as they should.
So I've had enough and want to replace them with some coil forks. Does anyone know of a good set of coil forks around the 140mm or 150mm mark? The closest I can find is the Marzocchi 55R, which has 160mm and would probably involve me changing my frame.
Cheers
Couple of pairs of Vanilla 32's on eBay at the mo..
Buy any RS Revelation and do a simple coil conversion for around £60 (Loco Tuning will sort you out with the parts)?
Makes a big difference and you can even chose between normal coil, u-turn and dual position
Have you looked at the Sektors? From my experience - albeit the air forks - they're very good value for money.
I'm kind of in the same boat. Love my 140 vans but want to push the travel up and the Mazz seem to be the only coil fork left at that level.
As above: either Rev with coil upgrade/change or Sektor Coil with damper upgrade (probably cheapest option, was for me).
I'd forgotten about the Sektors, a friend has got a set of air ones and they feel ok.
I'd much rather have a set of coils though. Warpcow - I guess you mean something like this? Although I'm confused as to why in the description they mention "Dual Position Air" if they're coil forks?
Also howcome you think they need a damper upgrade?
They don't need a damper upgrade, but it's nice and quite noticable if you ride trails where constant small-ish hits are common (rock-gardens or long sections of roots, like on my local trails, choked the basic Moco rebound damper). Not sure about CRC's description there, but there is no dual pos. air Sektor. I bought one of the basic R models from Merlin and added Rev. dampers myself for a total cost of about £300.
That sort of riding you've described, lots of roots and rock gardens, is exactly the sort of riding that the Floats seem to really struggle with.
So if you think these Rev dampers have sorted that type of riding out, then it sounds like its definitely worth doing. One issue is that I'm not good at working with fork internals, but I guess i could always buy from TF tuned and it would be easy for them to put a new damper in.
Thanks for the help
Sektor DPC are nice IMO. 110-140 or 120-150mm travel.
