Got a stumpy evo on order, frame designed for 150mm fork but I'm using the 140mm fork from my five.will this cause problems with geometry/BB height or is 10mm difference ok.

It's about 7mm once sagged, which is about the width of 4 20 pence coins in a stack. I'm guessing you wouldn't even notice.

Edit: I think basic setup would be more critical to how it will feel..??

Don't worry about the travel. See if you can find the axle to crown length recommendation for the frame and then the measurement of your fork.

Forks with the same travel are often different heights. I'm sure my 140mm Fox are about 10mm taller than my 140mm rockshox.

Either way it won't make a difference, there is plenty of tolerance if you think about the different amounts of sag people will run and the different sized tyres etc.
