Just trying to find out what people think is good to have in the "village" area of these type of events?? Product stands, catering etc.

The area concerned is the central area where timing and lap handover areas are. Near to camping and parking something to keep the people either supporting riders or riders not doing they're lap and general spectators interested.

All suggestions welcome, thanks.

Coffee! - a pre-lap espresso is a great thing.
Shimano or similar other mechanic stands for fixes
Lots of independent shops - not like mayhem where it's limited.
Kids bike track, so they can informally race their mates at any time.
Bonty 24/12 had a lovely yurt with live music. Similar to that would be nice too.

Non-bike type traders are what's really needed. The mrs always complains about Fat Face and the like no-longer coming to events.

Always seems that prices are full rrp at event stands. Almost like motor way service stations where its a captive market. Does nobody offer any discounts??!

The kids bike track would be a good idea.

And its key to have the start/finish coming right through/next to the event village, cos its rubbish if there's a long walk to the changeover.

To be honest I'm not sure non bike businesses are that interested in all but the huge events (Mayhem etc) as for the amount it costs in wages and time they don't make any money.

And its key to have the start/finish coming right through/next to the event village, cos its rubbish if there's a long walk to the changeover.

Yes this helps too, as long as visitor don't have to cross the track

Well, maybe.
Last years Bonty 24/12 introduced me to Cornish Blue. Lovely cheese and I've been hunting it down ever since. It was only 1 person for a few hours doing the cheese sampling but it was a nice touch.

I've never seen it done, but some sort of bonfire / hog roast / somewhere with blazing warmth would be ace. We once had a firebox inside a teepee at Mayhem and it was brilliant in a slightly primal way.

How about routing the track through a marquee with music, lights and cheering/jeering spectators. Get an announcer to big up each competitor and maybe some cheerleaders?

Seriously, at Torq 12 this year there were some kids in the woods. One would ask your name as you rode past, then run off ahead. You'd then ride through a bunch of the little tykes cheering your name. Nearly reduced me to tears after 8 hours in the saddle!

Thanks for the replies seems like all you lot want is beer and cheese then!! I'm not surprised!!

The kids track is a fab idea as well.

Anything else like independent bike clothing/accessories not the big names??

Thanks

A covered changeover area is always nice if the weather's a little inclement! 8)

Beer and cheese! 😀

I think you asked the question just before lunchtime!

But yes to independent retailers if you can get them. The holiday vibe of a 24hr race gives that...'hmmmm, can't afford that nice lynskey, so i'll get a movello t-shirt instead' vibe

Thread hijack but what are good 11/24hr events to do? Solo or team. May do a couple this summer.

+1 to the warm/fire idea, cant think of anything nicer at 3/4am to stand around a fire keeping warm with a coffee and a cake/hogroast. Definitely beats sitting in a chilly tent.
