In the enlightened opinion of STW forum peeps, whats the best 120mm 29er fork at around the £300 mark? I've been doing some mooching and the best i think i can see so far is the Reba RL.

I also see a lot of X Fusion Slide and Manitou Tower forks, around this mark or less, not much knowledge of these but used to have a Reba on my old Cube.

I may up my budget a bit, not decided yet.

you can get the new all black rockshox revs for £400, possibly cheaper from the german sites. Very nice forks and easy to maintain.

Can't comment on the revs but as I'm guessing you know it's hard to go wrong with a Reba.

Or for that price you could buy my old suntour raidon X3 29 120mm off me SIX TIMES OVER*

*purchasing my forks more than once may cause me to run out of stock

Just seen some RS SID RCT3 for about £450, even more over my budget. Keep coming back to Slides and Reba both about same price for 2014s ATM.

Now looking at the Marzocchi 320 LRs too!

If you do up your budget a bit then X Fusion Trace (lowered to 120mm)with 34mm stanchions are superb on my Solaris.

18 Bikes have them.

If you can find some in budget, marz 44s are very nice. As are RCT3 sids mind, tho I dunno if sids/rebas would be a bit flexy at 120mm...? Mine are great at 100mm, but my 44s at 140 are a little twangy.

My 120mm reba 26er (+ bolt thru) wasn't flexy at all, can't comment on 29er. The Sids are supposed to sacrifice some stiffness in aid of shedding weight though, so I'd stay away from them if that's a concern.

Right, but a 29er is like having a 150mm reba on 26"...

The Sids are supposed to sacrifice some stiffness in aid of shedding weight though

For a couple of years now there's been no difference between reba and sid chassis, it's all in the damping.

My LBS is a huge fan of x-fusion for that money. His opinion, and he's a bit of a sage, is that that x-fusion slide is real quality and value.

I'm really happy with my manitou towers. I'm 15st and there's no discernable flex at all.

I'm not a great fan of 32 stanchions TBH, but thought at 120mm that was all i could get, so am now leaning towards the Trace RL2.

That ups the budget to around £490 so just having a mooch to see what else is out there up to that price.

I have Manitou Tower Pros on my Fireline. Very good fork - the combination of air and coil is really nice. My 26ers have Marzocchi 55 and 150 revs, and I've been really happy with the Manitou in comparison.

They come with a reputation for being bombproof, and at £220 on CRC, an absolute steal!!
