Ive a pro 5 rear im using on the mega, which says its 11 speed HG freehub. My 12 spd Ebike is microspline, and i was under the impression for 12 speed it needs to be microspline, so im confused as to why there is a 12 speed with an HG interface.

So would the 12 spd, as in a sram sx system, which is 12 spd fit on the pro 5 hg freehub, or am I setting myself up for a load of incompatible hassles.

SRAM SX and NX 12s (eagle) cassettes fit HG freehubs, fair few other aftermarket manufacturers make them too, but they’re a bit spendier.

Only reason you need microspline or XD is to accommodate a 10t sprocket.

There's also companies like air bike making reasonably priced 12sp cassettes for HG, basically 11t to 40odd or 50ish means it's for HG freehubs.

can you not buy the different freehubs for the pro5 hub assuming its a hope tech

sunrace make 12 speed on  a shimano hg freehub..

its a way to keep costs down i guess

CRC/Wiggle did have an offer for SRAM PG1210 (SX) recently - it was like being all the way back in 2018 with a cassette for 25 quid!

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/p/sram-pg-1210-eagle-12-speed-cassette

Might come back into stock if you keep an eye on it.

What I was actually looking at for the mega is either this -

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225694145284?hash=item348c6b5b04:g:kBkAAOSw9mpjz9a9

Or this(bit more spendy but probably better) -

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225646964015?hash=item34899b6d2f:g:bgcAAOSwmCJjKyrs

Both are 12spd and both are HG.

It would be so much simpler if i could just buy one of them and slap it onto the bike and get going. But everything is so weird comparability wise these days.

The pro5 is a boost, so without any real experience of fitting boost, im guessing either groupo will give me what I want, i just need that confirmation.

Both of those have really bad reputations for durability.

12 speed on HG is mostly about marketing IMO, so that manufacturers are able to have a low priced 12 speed offering. It works for a while, but wears out quickly and is PITA to upgrade.

No experience of Shimano, but with SRAM, for me, a decent 12 speed groupset for more than occasional use starts with GX Eagle.

I've got 3000km on my OEM 12spd NX boost on HG freehub - original BB, Chainring and cassette, but 2nd chain about to be replaced

For £199 that NX deal looks pretty good, cassette alone usually 90ish

Shimano road 12 speed is HG (not microspline) as well

Don’t buy that SX - it’s junk. Look at the bb too - it’s an internal cartridge effort and apparently it disintegrates in short order.

NX is ok - at some point the rear mech might snap - if so replace it with GX and you’ll be golden. Cranks and chainring are ok - bb life is a bit hit and miss. The wheels manufacturing dub bb lasts much better in my experience.

For me I’d prefer to run GX Eagle - you could run that with an NX cassette and your existing freehub body.

That eBay listing says new but it looks very second hand…

I don’t think it does (the NX anyway). If anything maybe it’s been fitted to a bike then removed but both the cassette and chainring look new.

I can see a mark or two, but hardly constitutes as second hand, and thats only on the cassette, the rest is to my eye flawless(The NX)

What makes you say that ?.

And in all honesty, new other might be the thing if they've removed it from display bikes, but on that with 20 sets, i doubt they stripped down 20 bikes. So maybe the pic one is just put together from the pic.

The second one looks more used than the first - cassettes look new. Derailleur less so but arguably just stripped from a display bike or something. It irks me when people don’t list ex display/demo gear as New (other) which is correct. Brand new IMO should have the box and manuals etc.

Nope, got to 12. Put the windows magnifyer on your taskbar(ease of access) that will get you a much closer view of it.

I did get to 11 first count, but even then it could just be for the pic, and its advertised as 12 so will be 12 when you buy it.

And I see another has sold in the last couple of hours. Possibly someone here me thinks. I'll get in there before they all sell. But thanks for the links to the other sellers, should there be a mad sudden rush, I can always get them there.

That looks very pretty, but obviously the lawn needs cutting and the pointing doing😜

Are you not better off buying the NX cassette on it's own, and then buying the other bits bit-by-bit? Then you can do the BB, cranks, RD you really want.
you could then do a shimano Rd (my NX committed harikiri into rear spokes so running SLX RD) and a shimano or GX crankset

I've a set of vg condition truative x9 gxp cranks that are 2x10, and a 10spd xo rear mech and xo shifter, both of which are new, and were my initial idea to fit.

But I'd still be needing a bb,cassette and chain, and even then im not sure if you can change the 2x10 to 1x, plus its pre boost, and i dont know enough about whats compatible.

To be honest it all sounds too much of a complete ball ache. But this, fit that, will it fit, maybe aye, maybe no, buy something else, etc etc, and by the time i come up with the right thing a years gone by and ive spent just as much.

If you want to make life simple just pickup the NX groupset and see how it goes. Nothing wrong with the NX cranks - they’re a little heavier than GX but I don’t think it’s a mind blowing difference and they use the same dub system. It’s a chunk better than the sx stuff where a big chunk of the mech is plastic. Just be aware at some point you may need to replace the mech. GX works fine with an nx cassette / shifter. Deore or slx is rumoured to work too - although my GX mech is better than my XT mech as far as I’m concerned.

But have you got another stem and spacers that don't clash so bad.😬

SRAM NX will damage an aluminium freehub. Only the largest 4 cogs are on a spider.

Sunrace would be my choice if you need to stick to HG compatability.

That one wont be getting used 😆  its just to secure the fork.

SRAM NX will damage an aluminum freehub.

Most do, but should be fine for what i'd be using it for.

@Joe

Cheers for the info 🙂
