Ok looking for bike for short arse mrs...5ft to use on my direct drive trainer on zwift am assuming 11spd mtb will be fine on my 11spd Road cassette? She's not ridden drop bars, so I'm sure she would be more comfortable (real world riding) on a mountain bike when it warms up! Cheers folks
I think the cog spacing on road and mtb cassettes is the same but road ones may sit out a bit further on the freehub so her gears may need adjusting if ever she goes outside on it
11sp road cassettes are slightly wider, but of course with the same number of cogs the spacing will be different. But the spacer is very thin so it might work a bit.
You can get road bikes with flat bars though, using flat bar road shifters that have the right shifting. But don't underestimate your wife - you might find she can get her pretty little head around the concept of drops. It's not difficult!
I had to use a spacer for my 11spd SRAM cassette on the freehub of my Elite Direto X turbo. Haven't found anything to suggest you should do that other than a thread here. It did allow it to tighten up properly; had lateral play without it.
mols, I don't think the spacing is different - I think MTB cassettes overhang the inner side of the freehub a bit, which makes them seem narrower

Don't mention the ex wife! Cold sweat then, current girlfriend is clumsy putting it kindly and not very confident on a flattish traffic free coast cycle path. I'm looking for a cheap option too so assumed 11spd mtb would be easier to find than 11 spd Road? Thanks folks
Not sure if I explained correctly either... 11spd cassette is fitted to direct drive turbo so don't want faff of swapping cassette!
IMO, as said above, you will get her gears to work fine on the turbo but they may be a bit out of whack when she puts a MTB wheel on her bike - few twists of the barrel adjuster and should be great unless you've set the limit screws too
