I want to fit some old Shimano octalink cranks to a hardtail. 68mm BB shell. Is there a way of measuring to determine BB axle length? How critical is it to get it correct as 5mm difference equates to 2.5mm each side?
What cranks are they ?
What model cranks are they?
The info for the required BB is often on the Shimano site
The logos are worn off. I think they are old LX before HTII. I'll check out the Shimano site.
113 for triple, 118 for single ring.
the 5mm is to get the correct chainline.
LX were a bit odd for [at least] one of the year models
121mm IIRC
the model number should be stamped on the inside of the arm where the pedal threads are
Model number is FC-M510....
look here
Cheers uplink. What chainline will I be looking for 47.5mm or 50mm?
