I currently run a double (39/26) chainset on my MTB with an 12-30 Ultegra road cassette on the back. I'm hoping to do something similar on my new bike which will be 11 speed.
Why? I hear you ask. Well, on the one hand I raced on a 1x10 this year and found the gear drops a bit big on an 11-36 cassette and on the other, I still don't really get why anyone would need a 40+ tooth cassette!
So my questions are:
has anyone tried it? The XTR double front mech supposedly has a 10 tooth max drop. Does anyone know if this really is the max?
Would it be possible to run the XTR triple front mech on the double? (it has a larger tooth capacity)
Are the 11 speed Ultegra cassettes (11-32 or 11-28) compatible with the MTB group sets?
