I’ve started upgrading my full-sus to 11 speed and so I bought a Shimano XT M8000 rear mech and shifter. I assumed that I could get away with keeping my 10 speed wide-narrow Raceface chainset but the chain doesn’t want to stay on the chainring. Perhaps that’s expected behaviour?

If that is expected then I guess I need to buy a 11-speed chainset or do I just need an 11-speed wide-narrow chainring? If I go for the chainset then do I have to stick with Shimano? Would a Sram NX/GX 1x11 chainset work fine with my Shimano rear mech?

Probably just a case of new chain on a worn ring causing the issues.

You need a new narrow/wide ring, they are not specifically 10sp or 11sp AFAIK.

People have reported same problem as you when using an existing chainring though.

Just to follow-up on this. I did some more investigation as to why the chain was jumping off the chainring. Turns out you need to make sure the missing link on your chain should be properly tightened. Who knew
