Trying to service the clutch on an SLX mech, it's an 11 speed model from a few years ago. I thought it would be similar to this: https://nsmb.com/articles/shimano-derailleur-clutch-service/ but I can't seem to find a way to remove the "clutch" part. I'm not sure the plate axle can be removed either, there doesn't seem to be a way to separate the two halves of the derailleur like suggested.
Were some of the 11 speed mechs not serviceable in this way?
SLX can be stripped. I think I used this video previously
Just been having a watch of that, when I try that the clutch assembly does not come off, just the tension band and the cam unit bit that adjust the clutch tension.
Mine was really stuck on the first time I took it off, my solution was more brute force - holding it still and trying to pull it off whilst wiggling the cage back and forth to try and get it to rotate slightly on the shaft.
Other mechanics may have a better way of doing it
It's just really tight. Flat screwdriver and some twisting under the clutch barrel can help.
You'll get it. Point of advice, when you reassemble it, make sure the thin rubber seal is back in place.
The clutch is off, it was really tight, possibly a bit of corrosion on clutch and/or the plate axle. Next issue is I cannot remove the lower hanger section from the main body of the mech, there is no bolt opposite the plate axle, it's just flat, so I cannot separate the two parts and remove the spring.
Got the wee beggar, it was pretty worn and tight but it's come apart and gone back together. Time will tell if it's been done correctly and if it will fix the issue.
