I'm trying to get my head around all the new "standards" in order to work out a new frame. I get the wider 148 hub but I'm stuck when I add in Shimano 11speed cassettes with the big sprocket nearer the hub centre and how this would play with 2x cranks and wide (3.25") tyres. Has anyone else tried to square this circle or can point me in the direction of someone who could help?

Well that's why you can get 'boost' chainline XT cranks innit.

No idea about what works with your man tyres though

surely it's only nearer the hub centre in the sense that it "Overhangs" the back of the freehub a bit. The hub's genuinely wider between flanges isn't it, so your cassette will still be further from the true centre ??

(or a meringue ?)

Aye - the question is, will it be wide enough to give a chainline that allows 3.25" tyres?

I see, sorry - was assuming you'd managed it on a 135 hub but were worried that this was narrower

suppose you could draw it all out easily enough if you knew the width of your tyre on your rim (there must be specs/diagrams of the 148 hubs and of the cassette overhang dimensions somewhere)

Yeah, I was being lazy and hoping someone else had already done so.

1x11 XD10-42, on 142 with 2.8s on Scrapers, ie: non boost, does work. But chain is pretty close to tyre.
That's the spec on the proto alpkit ti frame we did, just to get it built and rideable.

Boost double cranks are available.
