Hi folks,
Is it possible to retrofit a Micro Spline freehub (or SRAM XD, or indeed, any other freehub that will accommodate a 10T ring) to an old XT (FH-M756A) rear hub? I'd like to explore a wider gear range without rebuilding my wheels...
Cheers - Adam...
No.
Awesome - thanks, kelvin, for a super-succinct answer!

No clue if the bits fit but shimano used to make a capreo groupset with a special hub body and 9 speed cassette which started with a 9t cog.
It was a 9 speed system though
Why not just put a bigger one at the other end?
Short answer, no.
Long answer (as per above post), you could play with your gear ratios by increasing your lowest gear at the back / increase your chainring size. For example, if you were running an 11-42 11 speed cassette and 32t chainring you could go up to a 34t or 36t front ring and 11-46 cassette. This would give you a higher top gear without the need for a 10t cog while keeping your lowest gear near enough the same.
Depending on where you ride and how often you use your lowest gear / how fit you are you may find you can just get away with increasing the front chainring size.
back in the 90's you used to be able to get a smaller sprocket kit that screwed onto the cassette freehub, replacing the lockring. think it was a 10t, but basically meant that you could run a smaller chainring and still have a decent top gear.
I think it was pamir, of hyper cracker, or mountain tamer or something like that.
it'll still not work for you though, even if you could find one.

This is the best and most useful answer. Sorry mine was so curt… it was late at night.
@kelvin - sorry if my response came across as petulant; I genuinely appreciated the succinctness!
Yeah, I'm aware I can go up at the chainring and the largest sprocket, and that's what I'm planning. I was just hoping I could do all of it!
