I have a Scott Scale 950, 2013 that needs the crank and cassette replacing. However, due to its age I can no longer buy the original pieces. I haven't really got a clue what I can buy as replacements.
Original pieces are:
10speed Shimano Cassette (CS-HG62)
3 Speed Crank (FC-M552) 42Ax32Ax24
Can I get any Shimano 10 speed cassette? Can I get any Shimano 3 speed crank? You will have to excuse my complete ignorance.

Any 10speed SRAM or Shimano should fit, I think. If you are happy with the ratios then you should probably aim to get the same again, although a couple of teeth difference won't be the end of the world.
Regarding the cranks....can you not just get replacement rings?
You need to match the number of arms and the BCD (bolt centre diameter) of your current crank.
Three new chainrings would probably cost the same as new cranks. Do you actually need to replace all three chainrings? If it’s just the middle ring that’s gone you can get any replacement 104bcd 32t triple ring.
Eg
Middle ring
The cassette linked above is out of stock but other places have it for a more cash, Decathlon do an 11-36 that would be fine.
You’d get away with 9 speed cranks but a lot of the higher end ones that are around are 175mm which are left because they are long this may or may not be a problem. They also may have a different bottom bracket the one in the link is octalink, some are square taper. The current deore triple is hollowtech 2 the same as your current crank but the ones I found where 175 and around £100.
Make sure you get a new chain too and bottom bracket which ever you choose.
@stumpy01 Good to know that I could buy any 10 speed (Shimano, SRAM). I will do a bit more reading on cassette buying.
Yes, I am sure that I could replace the rings as long as I have the tools to do so. Good to know I can do this.
@docrobster The options you gave make a combination of 9 speed crank and 10 speed cassette. Does this still work?
9 10 11 chainrings all the same as the internal diameter of the chains are the same. Difference is in the other diameter of the chain and cassette spacing.
The other option is to go 1x10 of course.
32t narrow wide ring from superstar or uberbike £30 or a lot less on eBay from China
Sunrace 11-46 10 speed cassette £80 showing in stock at all terrain cycles.
I’ve got that exact combination with the same rear mech as on your bike running fine for years now.
Actually thinking about it I’m probably mistaken and it’s an 11-42 I’ve got with that mech.
As above though if you are changing the cassette and chainring(s) you’ll probably want a new chain. You can use 11 speed if you like. May even be cheaper/more available.
Decathlon branded chains are made by kmc or so I’m led to believe
Also for 1 by - Deore cassette 10 speed is available, or go flash and get 11 speed Depre with the big bail out gear and a new mech (assuming you can find one......)
This hasn't been an easy task. Due to the fact that I also use my MTB as a commuter on flat terrain, it seems like I would lose speed by changing to 1x (which I need to keep up with those Bromptons!).
With availability being limited and my bike parts no longer being sold, this is the closest I could find to match the ratio that I currently have.
Would these work together without having to change anything else on the bike?
Crankset 9 speed Shimano 40x30x22
SunRace MS3 10 Speed 11-42
To replace my
Shimano FC-M552 42Ax32Ax24
Shimano CS-HG62-10, 11-36
With my lack of knowledge, I am assuming that the loss I make on having less teeth on the chainrings, I could make up slightly on the increased number of teeth on the cassette. Also, I dont know if the 9speed 10 speed combo works.
I've got a couple of 9 speed triple chain sets that I keep meaning to put on eBay if you're interested. 175mm 24mm shimano HTII.
Do you need 42 at the back if you’re sticking with a triple at the front? A 22x42 lowest gear is very very spiny…
This cassette from decathlon would do the job with the same ratios as your original.

The 9 speed/10 speed thing is a non issue. 9 speed cranks are fine in a 10 speed system. The chainrings are the same width. Main difference is the 22 granny ring instead of 24. This is because 9 speed cassettes maxed out at 32 or 34 teeth but 10 speed went to 36 at the back. So just changing the cranks alone gets you slightly lower ratios across the range.
Onzadog: My chain should have been replaced years ago. So the reason Im looking for a new chainset and cassette is because I will need new teeth to go with my new chain. I guess your crankset will be used.
Docrobster: I see what you mean about the lowest gear. Not needed. My issue is products from decathlon. Surely there is a reason Decathlon products are cheaper. I know from experience with other products that they dont have a long life span. The only reason I wos going for the crankset from decathlon was because I couldnt find replacement chainset rings matching what I currently have (and its shimano not decathlon). What's your opinion?
@pestofbuda
Lightly used. All were running with new chains before decommissioning. Maintenance wise, my bikes want for nothing.
But I get where you're coming from. I don't run used components because I never come across any that are as well cared for as mine.
I wouldn’t have an issue using that decathlon cassette. My experience of decathlon stuff is it’s generally good quality. They have massive buying power so their costs are low.
If I change my 10 speed crankset, and 10 speed cassette for a 9 speed crankset and 10 speed cassette combo, would my current shifters still work?
Yes. Ignore the 9 speed label on the cranks. You still have the same number of cogs at the back and rings at the front.
I have “9 speed” cranks on my road bike with 10 speed everything else. For years. No issues.
It’s still a 3x10 system.
