New 2020 road bike with 105 hydro levers. They rattle like hell when I'm on the tops. Nice and quite when on the hoods.
Google suggests this has been an issue on earlier models and some had success getting a warranty replacement.
Any experience here? Easy fixes, or replacements?
Interesting..Exactly the same issue with my brand new 105 equipped bike. Am awaiting the end of the lockdown before I take mike back to shop for a once over
BR505 brifters are prone to white plastic guide wear just before the gear cable passes through the brifter, which could result in loose bit of plastic at best and a sheared cable at worst.
I think they reduced frequency of issue on newer 105 hydraulic brifters.
I also have this problem but as I have converted to a single ring and removed the left gear cable I have been putting off trying to take back to shop under warranty
Interested in any solution
I did have some wear on the plastic guide on my previous bike as mentioned but not checked this one yet
Mine cant be due to wear, its a brand new bike and was like it from day one.
I’ve just taken rs505’s off my Caad12 - one of the shifters rattles more than the other. On smooth tarmac they’re fine but on anything less than immaculate I notice the rattle. Generally I commute with earphones in so don’t hear it - but when out for a proper ride without headphones it’s really annoying.
I haven’t lifted the hoods to have a look at the white guides yet - from a quick look they don’t seem to have failed like some online have - and if you hold onto the top of the brake lever the rattle stops. I wonder if you have reach adjust if you tweak that it’ll stop the rattle? Pure guess but maybe it’ll just put a hint of extra tension on the lever?
I had a similar problem. See below thread for how I fixed mine
