I’m out of my depth here with brifters! Anyway, it clicks in and out fine but when I put a cable through it may click once but seems to jam almost. I’ve changed the cable incase I’m being an idiot, checked the routing and still no pull. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance
They get really gummed up and really hard to repair. A good dose of gt85 might resolve it.
Was the old cable frayed? There may be fragments of cable inside. Remove the cover underneath - page 23
Those levers seem to snap cables very quickly. There are some tiny / very weak springs and ratchets in there, and as above, a single small cable strand is enough to jam things up. I was convinced my lad's shifter had broken something but it was just tiny fragments and a bit of muck stopping it working. Similarly the rubber hood can snag things if not 100% back in the right place.
Which shifter? My front 105 started to jam on the upshift (i.e the 'big' paddle). It was a known warranty issue as some shifters were missing a small spacer between the lever blade and the shift mechanism
Brilliant. A generous drenching in GT85 seems to have resolved it! Thanks all
I had a cable snap inside a Tiagra one recently, which I think is similar construction. The snapped cable had mangled the white plastic cable guide which was then snagging the new cable. Replaced for £2 and it's good as new now.
STW at its best!
