You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Over the weekend I had a couple of hours on the bike each day. I got a bit fed up of the headwind, so yesterday I decided to do 45mins of weights and 30 mins walk with mini 10. I also decided to start relearning all my old kata. Not sure what inspired the kata, but I quiet enjoyed it. Really sloppy though!
Buggered my achillies over the weekend, looking like swimming for the foreseeable. God I hate swimming!
2 1/2 hour kayak on windermere early this morning. It was like glass then kettlebell routine this afternoon
Got out for a 20 minute walk and then topped it up with some stretching at lunchtime, might have half an hour with Kassandra tonight while the wife's out....
Was wobbling tonight but girded my loins and managed 40 mins weight circuits. Admittedly at a bagpussesque level of intensity but glad I did a bit.
Out on the bike for a bit of a local bimble. Glorious sunset but also attacked by brambles.
Really enjoying this 100 day challenge, as it's making me get off my fat arse and go out.

Another back garden trials session around midday, 40 minutes. Didn't think it was a particularly hot day but felt like I was melting. Then mid-afternoon I thought I'd have another go trying to get up 4 pallet height, just 18 minutes, wasn't feeling energetic enough for it. This evening did some light exercise and stretching. Then after watching a youtuber's 5 year handstand progress video did 3 x walking feet up wall into chest-to-wall handstand.
6k jog today, fortunately even in my young fit days this would have been over 30 mins!
A month left to the half marathon, fingers crossed actual training may help.
Easy recovery turbo and a bit of yoga. Weirdly realised that the only upside of teaching from home was my opportunity to turbo and yoga jump in the shower and be at my desk by 0900. I think the yoga really helps. (Hope so as my head is a mess and after 1/2 term it's 10 weeks with no let up)
Did 30 mins of core and upper body work last night (including a horrid battle rope/slam ball finisher). Felt pretty awful but I don’t ache today, so I think I was actually just really hungry and a bit tired when I did it.
I’ve put a load of extra hours into work the last couple of weeks, so hoping I can get away from the computer at 4 today for a couple of hours ride.
And the first week is done!
Congrats to everyone who has kept on going and especially to all those who have pushed themselves a wee bit.
Yesterday and today was riding out to a "last night of Summer" bivvy and back again. My original site was scuppered by the strong winds but I found a suitable replacement at a small bird hide I'd had on my "list" for a while.

Time and life got in the way today, so an hours walk to town and back with middle child to pickup some glasses.
Gym yesterday and Zwift today. I'm trying the Zwift academy, not 100% on how it's meant to work but giving it a bash anyway.
I've been pretty solid with walks and swimming in torridon. Then took a few days off to heavy celebrate getting engaged but been back onit with running and punchbagging.
First week has been really enjoyable with riding for at least an hour on 5 days, one evening paddle boarding with the kids and today I’ve done an hour of weights which I know will be regretting tomorrow!
It’s really motivating to read what everyone else is doing and it’s great that we have a lot more STW’s giving it a go. Well done everyone.
Wow! Really motivating reading from those pushing themselves, both physically and just to do something because of time pressures. 3 hours riding today. Gentle but nice! Will try to up the intensity tomorrow!
Did @midlifecrashes kettlebell session from page 4, fantastic, really good mixed session, gonna be sore tomorrow! 😬
8km run with 300m or altitude gain felt ok while running but if it hadn't been for the dogs I'd have just had a snooze.
Yesterday's grim run was clearly just DOMS from the weekend, and I felt a lot looser today. So made the most of it with the first turbo ride of the season, and did one of the newer (to me at least) Sufferfest videos. Basically they've sorted out a bunch of short films and documentaries, and overlaid them with an erg mode aerobic workout. Today was a ladder type workout, 4x9min or so starting out at an easy pace with the last couple of minutes just under threshold. Not a killer, but certainly a lot tougher than the easy recovery spin I'd originally planned to do 🙂
The video BTW was a fairly interesting BMC documentary about Rohan Dennis' attempt at the hour record back in 2015.
Quick hour on the road bike whilst eldest was at cubs, blew the cobwebs away
12k steps yesterday, 6k of those on a 3 mile sunset walk. 1hr on bike today. Already quite tired.
Congratulations @joshvegas. What a place to celebrate 🙂
Managed to pack up early and do a couple of hours on the mtb. Even got up my steep local mtb climbs, that I haven’t managed for 10 months since getting COVID - so feeling pretty chuffed.
An hour of skating on top of the usual days exercise today, and I can proudly say after 35years I can drop into a ramp safely thanks to the team at Projekts.
A proper mental workout, I think I'll be able to hit some bigger drops on the bike after tonight's internal talking to I gave myself!
2 back-to-back 30" fitness/weights classes today. I think I'm fitter but I could just be better rested or a more accomplished slacker!
Started doing a plank a day a few weeks back and THAT definitely made a difference, no more bum-in-the-air now!
50 lengths(25m) in the pool this morning. Haven't been swimming probably since last 100 days and the technique was all to pot. Fly in the ointment was killing my Garmin Vivoactive 2, it's been on my wrist pretty much the last 5 years but recently I've been thinking of sacking it, guess this does it for me.
Just a walk for me yesterday as it was a bit busy with the kids and after school stuff
I think the challenge has been cursed for me this year - first bike ride I got a wasp sting and all the others I've got punctures! It also seems the autumn gales have come early this year and have conspired to only blow in my face.
Anyway, here's what I've been up to -
Day 2 - Pedalled the long way to a festival then raved my nuts off for 7 hours.

Day 3 and 4 pedalling around on the gravel bike, just 30 minutes and 9 miles each day.
Day 5 - an hour and a half kayaking about

Day 6 - 20 miles round the Pentlands on the mince machine. Got a puncture on some rocks but also a KOM so woooo! Even did some yoga in the evening.

Day 7 - 13 miles sessioning the local DH tracks. Punctured god knows where. Think it might have been the valve.

Day 8 - 32 miles on the gravel bike with a glass shard in my tyre at mile 10.

Another 5k run at lunchtime followed by e few weighted squats etc and unloading the roof timbers off the delivery wagon
Lunchtime run, 4.1 miles in 30 minutes. Feeling the smallest hint of a cold coming, kids got it, work colleague got it, touch wood. Have been doing little bits of exercise just to keep moving/active to break up sitting down at the PC while WFH all day. Thinking about doing strength later unless this cold moves in for the attack now that I've been for a run!
Weights at lunchtime, still taking it fairly easy after so long off.

A good wind was blowing today so due to an unexpected early day finish I did 40 miles across the fens on the road bike. 20 miles out into the wind followed by a lovely fast 20 miles home. Really enjoyed it!
Busy day but stretched the evening walk to pick daughter up from Rangers, so 8 days done, 92 to go.
I did a Z2/Z3 Zwift session. Garmin tells me it was the right thing to do and I was also trying to convince my arse that I don't need a wobble board/rocker plate for the turbo. I think I failed.
As a bit of an aside, does anyone else use the Strava or Garmin Connect "challenges" as ideas and motivation? It's not a reward thing but I sometimes look to see whats on and tailor my activities accordingly. For instance, Garmin have a 5k Run challenge for this weekend, so I'll fit that into one of the three days. There's also a 15km Run challenge for September so I've a week yet to fit that one in. There are similar challenges for Cycling, Swimming, Yoga, Walking etc.
Bit of a mishmash of stretching/mobility/yoga type stuff this evening. Had a go at some of these 5 primal movements that we NEED to do (from the guy that did the handstand video I mentioned):
Afraid I couldn't really commit to the cartwheels and forward rolls in the front room though 😂
@scotroutes good shout, I never really pay attention to those, joined a few now. 👍🏻
Very time constrained today so just ran laps of the park for 30 minutes. Not exciting, but good for clearing my head.
Turbo last night will run today. Concerned for weekend as I've a brewery tap session Saturday. #prayfor100th
As a bit of an aside, does anyone else use the Strava or Garmin Connect “challenges” as ideas and motivation?
I wish I could get rid of the bloody challenges on Strava, TBH! They could do with being a lot more intelligent - Strava knows I can (and do) run marathons on a semi-regular basis, why is it "challenging" me to do a 10km run this month?
I also seem to get bombarded with so many that the ones that would be a real challenge go missing. If they sent me one decent challenge a month I'd be far more likely to take them seriously. As is I just ignore them unless there's a chance of winning something if you complete it.
Went for a run at lunch. Intention was to shake off a hangover, but I hit 20mins and lost energy / motivation. Jogged / walked the remainder for another 20mins. Bit pathetic but had to shake myself up somehow.
THE CURSE STRIKES AGAIN! Went to get out the big bike for more DH laps but the sidewall of the rear tyre was slashed. Took the hardtail out and lost my bloody tool roll from under the saddle somewhere. What a pain in the hoop.

I'm with mogrim - the Strava challenges all seem so small as to not be worth bothering. Looking at the ones recommeded for me there's "Climb 978m in a week", "Complete 50k of activity" and "2 activities a week for four weeks".
I don't get any "recommended" challenges, I just have a look to see what there is. For example, fir cycling there are monthly distance targets - 400km, 800km, 1,250km. There are cycling ascent targets - 7.500km. Lots of similar for running. I guess though that they are only "challenging" fir some of us.
Anyroadup, a wee 6km run this morning around some of the building sites in Aviemore - new flats, new housing development, a new hospital and a semi-permanent ice rink. That also got me a Garmin badge.

I'll add to that last post by saying I do use Strava to keep track of challenges I set myself, though. Usually it's a mileage target for the year, which means using Strava to track my mileage weekly. As always, it helps with stuff like this to have a goal to work towards.
All those distance targets sound like genuinely difficult challenges, depending on where you are on your desire to ride bikes all the time.
Covid has finally reached my home with my daughter testing positive today. What home workout videos are recommended for my 30minutes a day if I end up isolating?
Maybe a 30 minute yoga session with Kassandra or Ariene. I quite like Kassandras beginner sessions? Daughters mate has just tested positive but so far we are still negative.
Got a 52 mile road ride in this morning, pending Covid developments....
Ok today this seems hard. First day in the two years I’ve done this where I’ve had a full, long day in the office and couldn’t cycle in due to timings and needing to be smart. And now I’m on the train home thinking how am I going to fit something in around also having a pizza and it being Friday night and just wanting to sit still!! I have already walked 10,000 steps as part of my commute; but given previous rules this doesn’t feel like it counts. Arghhhh…is the end so soon?!?
It’s looking like 9 pm Pilates…
Zwift ramp test this morning, which only took 20mins but felt a lot longer. Gym this evening for an hour.
What home workout videos are recommended for my 30minutes a day
I downloaded the first kettle bell app in the play store. it's just called kettlebell, allows you to set a time and it will generate a workout.
I've also done a ascending/descending push up/sit up and squat. Do 1 of each, then 2, then 3 etc up to 10 then back down to 1. Takes about 30mins iirc.
This is the stretching routine I did, only 25mins but a bit of plank or some extra stretches will see you right.
Maybe get the mtb fitness plan and do the body weight version if you don’t have kit? Or for a quick burst I use joe wicks’ youtube videos- warm up 10 mins including mobility, 15 min video, 5 min cool down
I’ve started this way too hard! 100km sportive at weekend that was really 140km when we rode there and back, gym on Monday, long commute Tuesday and Wednesday so 2 hours a day, fast 5km run Thursday for no good reason and today 3hr15 on mtb. Week on Sunday I have a 95km gravel event so it’d be good to have an easy yoga day next week!
If I keep this mileage up I might actually be ok when the xc season comes back round
Thanks all for the tips, I've tested negative so far so I can play at Farmer John's tomorrow. Think those yoga videos might be a good call, flexibility is something I should work on.
Ashat, did you get your 30minutes in?
135 minutes at my outdoor gym. This is the most I've done since the start of the challenge.32 minutes each on push up and pull down machines. Also 160 sit ups and dips.I may struggle to walk tomorrow.
On a lighter note a bag lady came and stood near my whilst exercising. She then started to set bits of paper on fire!Thankfully, she moved on after a while.By about 7.00pm, behaviour in the gardens was going down hill so I made my exit.
Not really feeling a great enthusiasm this year for Lukes challenge...guess I,m going to have to force myself.I'll try and keep his poor mate in mind and MTFU.
Glad to see you're still giving it a shot MCMD.
I'd planned some sort of upper body strength session for this evening but because I have a bit of a cold used the OH's 3kg dumbbells for half an hour of high-rep arm/shoulders exercises. Switched to 5kg dumbbells for next 15 minutes with lower reps. Had a 1 minute timer between sets during which I various easy leg exercises etc.
Ashat, did you get your 30minutes in?
Yes thanks to YoKaiser’s video and some Pilates in front of GBBO at 9 pm. Actually it was ideal - I clearly was very tight from the week at the computer, but was really quite tired.
Good news about the C19.
We are off biking and walking this weekend.
Banked 40mins of yoga this morning. Soloing the childcare today so might not get anything else in.
4 mile walk with a mate this morning, to walk off the Big Breakfasts we'd eaten at Hassop Station.
Can someone confirm my maths that today is Day 10?
Back on the game now, managed to get over to the gym this morning for an hour. Hoping to get over for tomorrow morning, then a road ride in the afternoon.
10 days done:
Day 6: v busy day, but forced myself to do 30 minutes trying not to fall off the rollers late in the evening
Day 7: 30 minute rower in my lunchbreak, managed to get a bonus 20 miles on the road bike in the evening (beautiful day for it!)
Day 8: 15 miles road bike
Day 9: 25 miles road bike
Day 10: 45 minutes on the rower in the morning, 20 miles on road bike this afternoon.
I'm keeping the cycling strictly zone 2 easy with a few cadence revs until I am sure I am over the injury that kept me off for so long. Going to do some intensity on the rowing erg instead - the Beginner Pete Plan. Quite tired but going to try to get some more miles in tomorrow as looking like it'll be the last day of warm weather.
Yoga on Thurs with a new and somewhat different teacher. Ran yesterday and today. Generally feel very drained - someone taser me to life!
135 minutes at my outdoor gym.
Blooming heck, that sounds a long time. I'm impressed.
I've been on the train all night and all morning to get on my holidays so it might be yoga for the first time as a thing on its own tonight, but back at it with the bike tomorrow.
6.5 hours out hike-a-biking Ben Macdui and the Loch Etchachan descent, then over the shoulder of Bynack More. That'll do for today 😁
Working today, so two laps (walking) round the factory had to suffice. I'd do this quite often to get some steps in or some Kms if doing the Garmin challenges. Since my watch broke it's just a bit on the boring side now. I'll need to come up with something new.
I was out marking the course yesterday for my club's race tomorrow, lovely 4 hour hike in the mountains near here. And the rain held off, which was a surprise given the drive to the start! It was pretty cold at the highest point (just over 2100m) with an unpleasant wind, but at least it wasn't raining 🙂
Today was a 45min Sufferfest video, a bit easier than it should have been as I seem to have messed up the FTP set up... still, hard enough and I was a very sweaty mess at the end of it.
Full days graft up the scaffolding followed by Ulverston lantern procession. No specific exercise but bloody knackered so it counts
Sounds plenty tough to me stabiliser!Munro,it was a long time out there but I've been building up to it all summer.Trouble is it gives me a massive appetite which I don't always feed with high quality food.It seems also, I do a lot less cycling because of weight training.Still anything to get away from the building sites.
10k run today. Had to drag myself out as I was out on the ale last night so feeling a bit meeeh. But glad it did it.
First day I’ve missed, as I’ve twisted my ankle and can’t put weight on it. Reply missed getting out, it must be said. Surprisingly so.
Group ride for me with two very fast uphill lads and one very very fast downhill lad so 3hrs of pushing it on both ends! Nice to ride with other people for a change, no way I’d have done all those climbs without.
I've had to have one day off so far. Done a few short rides, a few walks and a bit of supping all at very low intensity keeping heart rate down. Ended up on Thursday absolutely bone tired - I'd done 2.5 days work and the 30 mins each day on top just (I guess) wore me out. Still managed to walk the kids to school in the morning though.
The delights of long covid! (Or whatever it is)
Feeling much better; did 35 minute walk round the football pitches yesterday while eldest played, plus two 10 min rides to a park. Just hoping that I can keep this up this week.
70km road ride with a couple of mates. I was showing them the pleasures of the south side of Loch Ness. Strong headwind on the way to the Struie which made that bit a little tougher than it really had to be.
The "short, gentle" ride today was more "up all the hills" but one of the group is in his 80s so he often walks up the hills and today I joined him. Have started taking the spatone and hopefully that will gee me up a bit.
Walk along Curbar edge with the kids today.

Gym in the sunshine with the worlds road race on my phone for me. Not bad
All tested negative again today so out for 20 miles on the gravel bike.
Just finished an hour on the road bike, wind's picked up a bit from the morning, and mostly headwind home.
Not done today's yet so gonna dig the kettlebells out. Not really feeling it but reading the latest posts is the kick up the arse I need
13 mile walk on Arran, couple of corbetts and a wee recce of the Mauvais Pas on A'chir ridge, for a future climb.
Then 5 hours in the Galloways navigating around a course for MRT training.
Soaked all weekend, phone succumbed to the rain too. Great weekend though.
Riding with my 6yo daughter and pals today. Great times, not strenuous exercise but I was outside and moving for the best part of 4 hours so ✅
