You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Sun: In the garden on the trials bike for an hour this afternoon. Sunny, and warm enough with the effort for just shorts + t-shirt - vid but don't expect much. 25m of yoga this evening.
Swung the KB for an hour yesterday. Felt really good afterwards. Did some muscle balancing exercises today. Starting to see some good improvement in my hips, which has been an aim during this.
As you might have noticed, I'm out this year.Five months of noise from a gang of inconsiderate constructors has done for me. I just can't focus on daily exercise with some of the yobish behaviour I've had to put up with.Still, two years out of three ain't bad.Good luck to all those who couldn't finish last year and good health to Mrs scotroutes.Neil.
Good to see Mrs Scotroutes out and about.
Sorry to hear that Neil. You will be missed.
Sunday - mtb ride for a few hours. Not quite as long as planned as one of group didn’t feel great.
Today - Pilates as I needed a stretch and a quieter today after a decent week of riding and weights.
I’m WFH tomorrow so Tuesdays normal off road commute isn’t on - but have the mtb ready for an hour pre work blast (just need to get out of bed!).
Hour of Zwift this afternoon, and probably some bodyweight stuff this evening while watching Dune again since Mrs. & Mini 10 are at the in-laws.
Sunday: Another walk. Off doing some beerienteering but it had been muggled. Still, it took me to a wee summit I'd not visited previously.

Monday: Morning swim at Loch Morlich. Water temp 6.3C and a cold wind. Mrs S came in for a very quick dip as she has been missing it so much. Only to boob depth though - had bloods taken this morning so didn't want to get her arm cold.

(be thankful there's no sound)
Followed that with a very long detour to the Co-op and 45 minutes on Zwift this evening.
Might be a challenge getting something in tomorrow. I'll just play it by ear.
It's not quite Loch Morlich but this was todays ride......

Last weeks stuff:
Monday - trot in the rain
Tuesday - much better day rode off to head past Burbage then round Stanage and back through Blackamoor

Wednesday - off road back from work
Thursday - back to work on the road
Friday - short ride out after work to Overhaddon and back
Saturday - worked till mid afternoon then run in the evening with headtorch
Sunday - ride out to Rivelin, went via lady cannings to insepct berm repairs form a week or so ago
Glad to hear what everyone is getting up to
Walked yesterday. Not much but enough.
Today, a birthday ride and cheeky can.

Happy birthday, hope you didn't end up with warm beer from the rotor
Thanks! The beer had been hiding by a tree since last winter's beerientiering. Been waiting for the right excuse.
Went running with a local group tonight. Great fun.

Tuesday was a wee walk around the environs of Inverness waiting for Mrs S. I had my annual Gingerbread Latte from Costa

Wednesday was a ride up to Glenmore and the old ski road zig-zags to retrieve a hidden beer. I was luckier this time and found it after a bit of searching.

Mon: lunchtime run, 45 minutes, 5.3 miles, seated yoga in evening.
Tue: 1hr bodyweight in shed (really need to do something about the dust).
Wed: 30min yoga - a rest day due to onset of yet more cold symptoms from yesterday evening.
I've tweaked my knee a little. After riding Zwift a couple of days ago I started to get some inconsistent twinges. So the past couple of days I have been doing some bodyweight exercises that don't stress the knee. I'm hoping it's nothing serious, I have new skis to try out.
Tuesdays planned pre work mtb didn’t happen as so much work on. Was correct decision as felt v tired and a lunchtime walk was a better option.
Wednesday I did get up and take the mtb out before work. Really good blast trying to work at Z4 (I’ve got so used to managing my efforts due to long Covid, pushing myself feels odd). Trails still not a total bog.
Swimming again today. Long may sunny Autumnal days continue.

I’ve got so used to managing my efforts due to long Covid, pushing myself feels odd
That's awesome! The recovery is going well so far?
Just some bodyweight and resistance band exercises this afternoon.
Last Fri/Sat were where I fell down and missed two days. My head exploded Thursday evening run and I found myself thinking massively negative thoughts, all due to work.
Hit thornylee Sunday and head was better but still not positive. Had some hard turbo sessions and upped the 8km pace to 5:30/km which for me is ok given it's not flat.
That’s awesome! The recovery is going well so far?
Thanks 🙂 After 50 weeks, I feel like I am 90-95% there! Some sticky breathing, and have to balance my energy out over the total week (hence cycling on a less busy work day); but I do feel like I can start to push myself more now. Hoping I can get some longer rides in over the winter, to get out bikepacking come the spring!
Thursday: good old garage gym - upped the weights, and surprisingly not achey today!
No sign of the adventure letting up for me. Back on the trials bike yesterday (30 minutes, Thursday lunchtime) and today (1 hour, Friday early finish). Here's a really exciting photo. Yes it's a paving stone and it very quickly highlighted to me the shortcomings of my rear wheel control.

Yes that's my lawn 😀
Well, it’s been a tough few weeks, first the lurgy which had me grounded for a month followed by an over the bars on a night ride resulting in two sprained wrists and cracked ribs and finally finding out our 9 year old Bearded Collie had a tumour and us having him put to sleep on Thursday.
I’ve been keeping up with the hour a day with dog walks (we have another dog) and using the static bike in the garden but all low intensity due to my painful ribs.
I’m looking forward to getting out on the road bike over the weekend for some gentle rides to try and clear my head. I’ve been avoiding the thread as reading what everyone else has been doing was too depressing so well done to everyone still going.
The booster has knocked me the past couple of days. So I've taken hour long walks around the neighborhood today and yesterday.
Any tricks to dealing with injury related lack of motivation?
Hurt my wrist after rampworx on the jump bike nearly 2 weeks ago, still don't know how but I know I can't really do much with it. Since then the only thing I have been able to do is walks/lower half related exercises.
Friday was the first day I didn't do anything very specifically to deal with half an hour's exercise. I did mooch around some woods for about 5 hours the day before and actually ended up digging my rollerblades out yesterday and took my kids to an outdoor skatepark.
Think it'll be a bit of a walk this afternoon to get out he house.
I was beginning to feel like I was making gains with the bodyweight stuff but now I can't do any of that, nor ride my bike and and I'm being very picky with playing drums so as to not aggravate the wrist. Joys of adult life I guess?
I also really am finding the want for a trials bike, someone talk me out of it please, I've nowhere to store one.
Think lack of motivation is tricky when you have an injury which prevents you doing the thinks you were making progress on. Just getting out the house for a walk is good for both mind and body though.
For me:
Friday - Pilates. End of a rough week, work wise and it was nice to switch off.
Saturday - local walk as needed to fit it in round garden jobs
Sunday - 32 mile road ride as part of a new local social ride group. Apart from I rode home from it via one of the local Tour de Yorkshire hill finish stages. Ha - brutal. Only problem was the last mile home realising the weekend fun was nearly over and the work issues would start again tomorrow 🙁 (I like my job, just a problem with a team members mental health).
Sat: 45min easy/slow pace jog, 4.34 miles.
Sun: 30min evening yoga. had a family walk earlier in day, with a bit of clambering and jumping about with the kids.
@keefezza A trials bike really won't help your wrist in it's current state! But as far as storage goes, maybe a 20" mod bike might fit as it's basically a stick with wheels and handlebars. Ah you want me to talk you out of it. Yeah it's really difficult, hence the name: trials. I started in my early 40s, and after 3 years I've still got a long way to go before I can call myself a trials rider. Seems other people can pick it up in six months and look like they've been doing it for years though, bastards! How's your balance? If it's a bit rubbish like mine, you'll be practising quite boring stuff and getting frustrated by a glacial rate of progress. You don't need a trials bike to start anyway, you've seen what Chris Akrigg can do on a fixie and Martin Ashton on a road bike? See if doing this stuff: Trials Bike Riding For Beginners: First Five Skills To Learn appeals (ignore the goofy intro).
I should probably just put my front brake back on my dirt jumper and piss around with that really. That'll work fine I'm sure.
I won't be riding any type of bicycle until the wrist is better, I'm sure trials is likely to be more severe than anything else I'll do.
Don't mind being difficult, never specifically done any of it before and at 34 I've practically got a head start haha. Balance, I'm more than capable of standing on 2 feet and not too bad on 1 foot. Bike wise, my track stands are now regularly getting into the double figures (seconds) so it's a start.
Once this wrist heals I'll play with the dirt jumper as a trials bike see how it works. Thanks for the vid recommend.
Strolled and rode with the family yesterday. GT trip today. Still going.
Sorry about your dog @sandboy 🙁
Fairly easy weekend here - 20K run yesterday, and 70K on the road bike today. Lovely ride it has to be said, beautiful weather and I was out for about 3 hours and I reckon I had less than 20 cars overtake me!

FWIW it was close to my MiL's village - northern Extremadura, which is a very rural part of Spain, in one of the poorest parts of western Europe. In summer it hits 40C, which isn't ideal for riding, but at this time of year it's great.
It's been a shitty few days here at Casa Scotroutes. We're both feeling mentally and physically tired and Mrs S hasn't been well at all over the weekend.
Thursday was a late-night Zwift session. At least I've gained enough levels for a pair of stripey socks though!
Friday morning was a short swim in Loch Morlich. The water is still getting colder, though I didn't feel it as much. It was a wee bit choppy at times too.

I made up the 30 minutes by walking to the shop for the latest Mrs S craving. This has actually become a regular occurrence. So far it's been tomato soup, cheese and tomato pizza, white chocolate Magnums, plain white bread for french toast and Revels 🙂 I don't mind the short walk, even if it's just for some fresh air and a chance to keep the challenge going.
I'd originally planned to get out for a bivvy Saturday/Sunday but was again shopping 😉 and then another Zwift session. I did, however have time to do a full service on my Blutos, which wouldn't have otherwise happened.
Today (Sunday) I headed up Glen Eainich to test ride the Blutos (better than new I'd say) and to liberate another beer!

I also checked out a few bivvy spots, including a couple I've not previously looked at. Maybe later this week if all is going well...
Good photos above from Jimmy, Mogrim & Scotroutes.

Monday - evening ride after wotk round Tideswell
Tuesday - ride down towards Holmesfield, back via Big moor, Totley moss and Blackamoor

Good to hear what everyone else is getting up to, hope all of you with other stuff, injuries etc are managing to get a bit of something with fresh air done, and even if not, that you are not beating yourselves up about it.
Good photos above from Jimmy, Mogrim & Scotroutes.
Liking your photos, too. Makes me nostalgic for "home" in the Peak 🙂
Managed to squeeze in a 7km run, It was a superb morning and I was so grateful to be out.

Past two days have been KBs in the basement. I'm getting in 500 swings per 30 mins now. Which is about where I was at this time last year. But without the hamstring pain I had last year. So that's good. Weather has been great here, unfortunately I haven't had time to get out on the bike because of a combo of booster, injury, work and family. Maybe try for a ride tomorrow, but it's looking like a low chance of success.
Going to try and up the effort a bit this week and hopefully this time won't end up with another cold forcing me to just do yoga every day! Not working this week so no commutes either.
Mon: 1hr trials bike, wooden pallets getting slippery with the damp, can only see that getting worse unfortunately. Not the best session. And 1hr bodyweight in the evening. Feeling stronger! 5x35s chest to wall handstands - getting hands very close to the wall now too so have to use finger pressure on floor to stay upright. 5 x 10 bodyweight rows paired with 5 x 10 push ups on low paralletes, managed good form all the way to the last rep on the last set. I mentioned all this last year too. Unfortunately went back to my inconsistent ways much quicker than I expected after the new year and lost the progress.
Really nice photos all. I just CBA with the hassle of uploading stuff to here most of the time!
Yesterday: the situation at work got worse, so I only managed a walk. Which I really needed to clear my head. But thankfully the person is safe.
Today: off-road cycle commute with a tiny bit extra, to take me to 1000 miles for the year. Whooooohooooooo. I know for many of you that would be a rubbish year; but given how unwell I felt with long covid and only did a 15 min spin round the block in April - I’m delighted. The year has ended much better than it started. Off to find a coffee in celebration.
@sirromj - ending this challenge at Xmas throws us right into the season of over-indulgence and sloth 😄
@ahsat - it took me a wee while to get over Covid but not as long as you. I can feel your frustration, but it's good news that you are looking to be out of the woods now. FWIW I use postimages.org for the photos and it's only a couple of clicks. Still, there's always Instagram..
Got in 10k walking steps yesterday and a much-needed yoga sesh.
Lunchtime 10miler on the bike today before the weather came in.
I have quit.
I posted a longer explanation a few minutes ago but it seems the site crashed and i lost it.
basically, the pressure to fit exercise into an already overcrowded schedule is making me more stressed and miserable than before.
injury has left me with really only turbo training during the week and a bit of road riding at the weekend.
My motivation is shot, having just found that I can't do my main cycling target for the autumn (an XC marathon race in a few weeks).
somehow I'm both exhausted but also less fit than beforehand, probably because i'm doing lots of junk miles and no proper rest.
It's nice to see that others are able to make it out into the countryside, during daylight, to do something physical every day, but I've found it's not possible for me and just too exhausting to keep trying.
good luck to those of you still going.
Thanks @scotroutes. The worse definitely seems behind me. And I had my final long Covid group session today too!! Now to find some endurance and not crash and burn. I’m hoping come the spring I’ll be back to sticking longer back-to-back rides together.
Hope MrsSR is feeling a bit brighter.
Trying your postimage.org suggestion (know you already saw this on the gram!). This was me getting v lost in the centre of Leeds adding an extra mile to my commute to tip over 1000 😂

@gingerflash - life is for enjoyment. No point doing something that is causing you stress. Keep moving, in some way that suits you, for mind and body. And rest.
Edit: photo upload worked (after a couple of failed attempts) and a lot less faff than the labnol method I was using.
@gingerflash - it's supposed to be a challenge, but not a chore. There have certainly been days I've struggled to keep it going and that's with the luxury of a decent amount of free time. It certainly shouldn't be causing you additional stress and so I reckon you're right to back it off.
I rode for a couple of hours today, just picking my way through some forest tracks and trails, trying to avoid the huge winds. I mostly managed!

Just shy of 10km running up Carnethy Hill in the Pentlands and back down tonight.
The mental exhaustion of the last week of dealing with that mental health situation at work has caught up with me today. Planned garage gym became Pilates in front of last nights bake off.
I've had two days of bodyweight/bands. Not much else to report! I'm enjoying the little improvements I've made throughout this.
Still going here, been doing double sessions all week: weights+swim on Monday, run+turbo on Tuesday, then weights+swim again yesterday. Planning on turbo+run today.
Tomorrow's a concern, though - not sure how I'm going to fit 30min exercise in. Might have to do a 30min yoga session or similar with the work laptop open (and pretend I'm working...)
Technically I suppose I'm out. I didn't manage 30 mins yesterday - lunch plans were disturbed and evening plans amounted to 20 mins of yoga and press ups. Today, similar but I've done 60 Burpees. So I've done *something* but not 30 mins.
I think it's been said the occasional day here or there can be excused.
Earlier this year I was reading Ross Edgley's The Art of Resilience , The man who swam around the British Isles - 1780 miles in 157 days! Didn't finish the last 3rd of the book, but have often found myself thinking about it during this challenge; it does add a some perspective on what we're doing, and has helped me push on physically. It's also informative to someone who is interested in sports science but doesn't actually know anything about it! And some amusing anecdotes.
Thu: 1hr ride to parents, to do hedge cutting. 30 minutes yoga in evening.
Fri: 1hr trials at skatepark, including the ride there and back, 50 minutes bodyweight exercise in evening
This week has seen me do the most trials riding in one week, with a couple of upper bodyweight sessions, but more importantly without my shoulders, arms, and wrists hating me for it. I sit at a desk working on a PC, and quite happy to do the same in my spare time too. So the more I actually break out of this and start using my body to do things, the better it gets.
Sorry about the lack of updates. Mrs S had an emergency admission to Raigmore Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning as she was feeling so poorly. She seems to be doing much better now.
Between trips to Inverness, I've been hitting Zwift, including the new Neokyo roads, and managed out for a run on Friday. Plans for a bivvy tonight are on hold as she might be getting home today.
Hope Mrs Scotroutes feeling better and makes her escape back home.
Trot around the woods for me today. Hopefully a ride tomorrow.
All the best to you and Mrs Scotroutes. Hope she is feeling some improvement.
Thursday: garage gym, though really good my food wrong and felt naff
Friday: walk up the hill before work
Saturday: 8 mile walk with family
Legs still aching from gym and not feeling v walking fit!
Bit of a fail yesterday - I had lunch with my colleagues in Madrid, it was great to see them in the flesh (we all WFH) but not ideal for exercise! Managed a couple of hours of walking, mainly with the dog, but that kind of feels against the spirit of the thing. But it'll have to do 🙂
Best wishes for Mrs. Scotroutes, too!
Hope Mrs Onion is doing better...
Trip to the hills this weekend and a very wintery loop from Glen Doll to Loch Muick and back.

30 miles of gravel riding today, on some new to us tracks and roads. Brutal northerly headwind. But actually felt the strongest on the bike I have for over a year! 🙂
Mrs S is doing much better and should be discharged tomorrow morning. That being the case, I opted to make the most of my last night of freedom 😀

I'm getting jealous not only of the landscapes you're posting now, but the beers too! Though I did make up for it Saturday with a couple of generous glasses of red. Do like an IPA though 🙂
Sat: 10k run, bit late in the afternoon so carried bike light round with me and used literally in the last two minutes.
Sun: - easy day - after getting back from a trip to see Christmas lights in a pinetum for the kids, and I'd sat around for a bit, it was getting late, 40 minutes of yoga finished at 11:45 pm.
I keep having intentions to do a Bivvy and not quite building up enthusiasm!
Over the last week:
Monday - walk in the woods
Tuesday - ride out from Calver, past Hassop, down the golf course descent Bakewell and back via Eyam

Wednesday - off road commute back over Froggat and down through Blackamoor
Thursday - back to work on the road via Calver
Friday - loop after work round Tideswell
Saturday - trot round the woods
Sunday - out to Holmesfield, Barlow, Linacre reservoirs and back via Holmesfield again.

Ground still unusually dry for the time of year.
Well, I had to get home again...

That's my 60th consecutive "bivvy a month". A couple of times, it's felt like ticking a box, every other time I've been glad of the rather restorative feeling I get. A night out is never a mistake.
I really need to get in the habit. I can never decide where to go, and my bed is too appealing cometh the time without a plan..
I like the snow and proper hills above from Scotroutes and Jimmy!
We got out to Hope today on the train and did a loop up broken road, Rushup, down to Peak Forest and then back up to the top and down Pindale.

Scotroutes and Jimmy smashing the photos again
Monday: simple local walk in recovery mode
Today: stupidly hard Pilates session that resulted in a heap of laughter
And tomorrow is day 70. Day 70 was my last day of the 2020 challenge, as I started feeling ill with Covid that evening, and some pretty tough months followed. Going to give long covid two fingers with a longish gravel ride tomorrow.
Mon: 50 minutes bodyweight exercise in shed, 35 minutes cycling 9 miles in 3 rides, hedgecutting
Tue: 24 minutes for 2 rides total 6 miles, hedgecutting, 30 minute 3.6 mile run.
Mentioning the hedgecutting because it was hard work I'm not used to.

Out for a wee walk with Mrs S today. You can't begin to imagine how good that felt!

Grand stuff Scotroutes
42 mile gravel ride, for both mind and body equals my 70 day run of last year.
If anyone is bored/wants more context:
Yeah, day 70. Get. In.
(Also my birthday)
Out on the Fatbike for a trundle round some fireroads and a wee bit of singletrack. It's definitely getting muddier though dropping to freezing overnight.

That wall of cloud included a wee snow shower that caught me just as I started heading home.
Happy Birthday Scotroutes and good pics as always :+1:
Commutes total 50mins ~1hr spent in the shed, spots of tidying then cutting two 40cm lengths of pvc pipe and gluing one pvc pipe joint onto each. Makes a packable bunny hop bar which I've not used with any success for over two years. That was done within two minute rest periods between sets of bodyweight exercises (5x40s chest to wall handstands, 5x6 dips, 5x12 bodyweight rows).
Happy belated Birthday, Col.
What's been this week? Not much. Lunchtime walks and a 40min blast round local roads yesterday. There's an Innovation / Science park across the road with nice empty roads, makes for a nice 10 miler within lunch constraints, my equivalent of Zwifting.
Job Interview tomorrow so have been conserving energy. Will run/ride off any remaining nervous energy once it's done.
Happy birthday for yesterday, Scotroutes!
Good run last night with the club: 4x2'/2x4'/1x8' intervals. Freezing at the start, and I was a right sweaty mess by the end 😀
No photos, and that's probably for the best.
I was out for a short walk with Mrs S on Thursday, then got Arwened yesterday so it was a late evening yoga session. (After making progress with the Dining Room-to-Gym conversion.)
Made the most of today though.

Yeah, so 12km run this morning. Very slippy in places and some dodgy frozen puddles which I was never sure were going to take my weight (some didn't). No photos but assume the same as yesterday without a bike in the way 😃
thu: 44 minutes out on trials bike, used bunny hop bar, reach 40cm but failed to clear it 3 times consecutively.
fri: 1hr out on trials bike, bunny hop bar again and various small stuff.
sat: 1hr in shed of bodyweight exercsie, tidying the nut & bolt drawer during 2min rest periods between sets.
sun: cold 10k run should have worn gloves but still got sweaty. enjoyed though.
Friday, a run which felt like hard work. It was flat and I just prefer running hills when the hurt is understandable, but on the flat it's a different sort of hurt. Anyway.

Yesterday, I maybe failed but I did walk for 30mins at an Edinburgh Castle lights event.

Today, been for a stroll in the lightly dusted Pentlands.

Nice photos all.
Thursday: recovery walk from the previous days ride
Friday: garage gym with weights or reps increased on most exercises.
Saturday: spent all day sanding our hall, stairs and landing (thinking I’ve sanded my fingerprints off as can’t unlocked my phone anymore) so 30 min yoga session in the evening
Sunday: bit of an epic across the moors in fresh powder. Realised I really was out there on my own after a while so bailed for bacon

What a change over the week. Like the photos above and glad people are getting out to play in the snow.
Monday: local loop through the woods and out to Blackamoor.

Tuesday: train out to Hope and did a loop over to Peak Forest

Wednesday - ride after work
Thursday - early morning trot
Friday - most borderline day so far - managed to cobble together about 30minutes of walking
Saturday - walk round the woods
Sunday - ride in the snow - had melted and hgone slushy on Saturday then frozen hard overnight so interesting conditions.

Might have to use my 'cheat' pass today! Walked 30 mins to get my flu jab, but wasn't going to count that as it was running errands and I planned to do pilates this evening. However now feeling pretty naff post jab with a very woozy head - don't think pilates is going to happen!
Stubbornness won through and Pilates done. Blurghh. Head easing a little - let’s hope that’s it in regard to side affects.
Well done! One of my knees was having a little grumble after my run yesterday so I Went for a brisk 50 minute lunch time walk through the fields from the office today. Which didn't help. Another 30 minute beginner yoga session this evening.
3/4s of the way through!
Endeavour to persevere!
I still have no apparent side-effects from my double-jag today.
30-something minutes on Zwift tonight. A bit harder than I normally
Play room / pain cave is coming along. I'll be in Inverness tomorrow so will be looking for some more bits for it.

Wow Scotroutes. That is quite the set up. We are lucky to have ours up permanently too, but it’s a bit more of a bodge around other bikes in the cellar and nothing as shiny. Looking at the weather today, that’s what I’ll be doing later (overslept to do it before work - ops - think I was seeing off the rest of the vaccine).
Your right Simon - 3/4s of the way! Good luck with the knee.
Also took some effort just to crank out 40mins of Yoga last night but as usual it was needed.
For continuation of photos, this is the view from my window and the bright light caught my eye - turned out to be Logan Air ABD-EDI, must have had full beam on (taken with Google Pixel night sight).
