30 mins rowing (indoor) actually not as bad as I expected. Out on the motorcycle for 4hrs today but I'm no sure that would exactly be in the spirit of things.

After school today, the boy didn’t fancy a bike ride but opted for 30 minutes bouncing on the trampoline. I’m guessing that counts? He also asked if PE lessons count?

If he wants PE to count, it counts. I'd definitely count it.

It's my wife's birthday so I only snuck in a half hour run today. First run in about 2 years and to say I enjoyed it would be a big lie. Carcassonne is a nice place, though.

Also, isn't trampolining exhausting?

It certainly is!! I was happier blasting out a quick 20 miles on the road bike. Lovely sunshine and a good hard headwind on the way home.

I'm in. New to strava but think I have cracked it!

My runs will be very short and slow for a while. I'm just starting up again after a year off with a torn medial meniscus, and the mrs has decided that she wants to run too but she hasn't run in the last 40 years!

Good motivation as I've had a lazy 12 months after 10 years of triathlons.

Granddaughters 7th birthday today. Party on saturday which involves over 300 miles of driving for us. Getting something done that day was looking difficult, but it's a trampoline party so I think that counts 😜

I’m in, I’ve just joined the Strava group. I’ve ridden for the past two days and will have the odd run. Sadly I’m a terrible runner and don’t enjoy it....

Well three days of commuting to and from Chichester (22 miles each way) was a good into to this challenge!

I think my aim is going to be adding more body weight exercises (i’m Imagining PLENTY of 30-40 minute sessions at home with kettlebells and the chin up bar..I’ll have shoulders of steel!) and more running...

I think the challenge will be the days I work and have the kids, hence needing some good home workouts!

Keep it up everyone!

Monkeycmonkeydo- I can't give specific advice but I've eaten loads every time I've done this with no weight gain.

I went for another run yesterday and am in a bit of pain- my own fault for running as hard as I used to years ago two days in a row straight off the bat. I'm looking forward to having my bike back but I'm off paddle boarding today for a break and that's loads of fun.

For home work outs, in the past when time has been really tight or I've been working away and in a hotel I've done half an hour of circuits. 10 each of squats, press ups, lifting something (when I was away I used my holdall) and sit ups. These were painful but didn't require any special gear and I think they made the biggest difference to my fitness.

I stumbled across this on Tuesday and luckily I'd done a workout at home Monday, so I'm now going to aim to keep this going. I did a big ride Tuesday evening so was quite tired after work last night, but managed to do 30 mins of body weight exercises. Certainly slept well last night.

Felt knackered last night from extended weekend riding, but opened up the Nike UTC app. That's a good app - recommended by someone here. Did a core session for 30 mins, felt better for it and slept like a log.

Just a quick walk last night as I'd done a few hours clearing the back door of weeds and wotnot. Half an hour on the wattbike at the gym today. But the biggie will be tomorrow, booked in to an inflatable assault course place for daughter#1 birthday, I expect to be pumped after it.

I missed a day yesterday, life and work got in the way. But I'm making up for it today with two sessions. A run at lunchtime to catch up for yesterday and a ride after work.

My paddle board plans were foiled by Frenchness- the most French of things, the hire place's website said they were shut and to email for out of season hires, they replied saying they'd be open til 6, we got there and their sign said they were open Thursday to Sunday til 6, then when we went to hire them at 4 he said no because he shut in an hour 🤦‍♂️

My wife, who hasn't holidayed in France before except in the city, was pretty hacked off about it but you can't go into a holiday in rural France expecting everything to be open at the time it says it's open.

Anyway, I went for a swim in the sea instead.

I did two rides, then a brisk walk and today I was back on the road bike. I’m trying not to be lulled into a false sense of security with the weather.... I told a friend what I was up to and his first response was “what are you going to do on a wet November day?” I hadn’t thought of that far ahead.

Wednesday was a roller session hard/easy to my playlist (must remember to remove pink Floyd and led Zeppelin from that list), yesterday was a 6km treadmill in the morning then an hour of Pilates.
Half day today so I'll be cracking out the gravel bike.

Today was tough as the kids were at my mums after school and Mrs Muggo wanted to go to the pub garden for a drink. Had to be strong and do 30 mins body weights before going out. It was the first time that it felt like a chore.

5 days in and already I feel so much better physically and mentally too.
Only rides so far, tomorrow may be a brisk walk/jog (think koush to 5k), but after 12 months of relative inactivity this is what I need.
If you want to follow my progress on Strava you'll find me at no5 on the leaderboard.

I missed a day on Wednesday but made it up with a double yesterday. Today I wasn't in the mood but dragged myself out for a ride to the pub for a beer and back. Does that count?

Yesterday's ride was the first time out for the gravel bike since spring. This afternoon I'll be sorting the dragging rear brake.
This morning will be a gentle ride to find some clay for a class expt.

Really enjoying this so far. I have decided that my morning / evening dog walks don't count (for me), so finding ways to fit in extra exercise has been good.

So far I've had a couple of lunchtime runs, a night ride, session of Pilates, a cheeky kayak and a 's/s & bob' supermarket ride. Nothing epic, but all things that I probably wouldn't have bothered with otherwise.

Just hope I can keep the motivation going with dark nights and winter weather...

Flowerpower- that's all brilliant stuff. Well done for not taking the easy option and counting your dog walks.

I did something I don't do often tonight- 10 mile ride but reps of some downhill trails. The climb up is savage, 21% average but with steeper and gentler sections. Some scallies had started a fire on one of the trails so I had to out that out too.

Proof of the effort is the sweat stains on my top tube-

It was a great night for a scenic pee but I was solo so no one could get the snap ☹️. And my experience of weeing on fires is that it makes a stink but is ineffective.

Walk yesterday and a home workout today. Simple 1 squat, 1 pressup, 1 sit-up and build up to 10, then back down to 1. Which gives a 100 of each.

Inflataworld on Friday was great fun too, harder going than expected!

We’re both still on it, the youngster preferring bouncing to pedalling but I’m beginning to get that good obsession with cycling everyday like i used to. Rides have been between 45 minutes and 2 hours using the road bike mostly but with a couple of evenings around the woods. The boy is now taking about doing 30 minutes of trampolining every day, reckons he’s just going to wear his gore tex jacket on the days it’s raining!!

Well I managed half an hours stretching, light weights and boxing. As an old fella I,m not finding this challenge as easy as I thought.I guess a touch of depression and living in a "difficult"area doesn't help.I could also do with some ideas for activities.Cycling, walking, weights and stretching are a bit limited.I should try and go for a swim. Its a pity gardening and housework dont count. Is anybody going to include dancing?I suppose it's a form of exercise but not sport obviously.I,m also trying to eat alot but having the right sort of foods is a problem in this culinary desert.

Monkeycmonkeydo- dancing sounds pretty good to me. As for variety, it depends what you like and if you're willing to pay for something like a yoga class. That's a useful day of non-vigorous exercise if you're eager for some gentler days.

For something more vigorous, maybe a five a side league? I am absolutely shit at football but found a team that didn't really care to join one year.

Rock climbing is going to feature in my future, maybe see if one of your council leisure centres has a wall and go bouldering (i.e. without ropes and at low level, so there's less faff and kit). Or you could see if there's a group on the website Meet-up that's doing climbing near you. Or maybe even rambling, I'd not discount how good a hike can feel. The group may help with your depression as well.

I did almost the whole challenge on my bike last year but understand that some people could find that a bit tedious.

@monkeycmonkeydo - I'd second the 'meetup' website as a good place to look. Lots of different activities at various levels, and it is much easier to keep motivated if you're meeting other people. Most groups are non profit making, run by volunteers and are usually cheap / free to join.

Another thing that works for me is a pilates or yoga DVD. I'm fairly rural and struggle to get to regular fitness classes, so once you get the moves sorted, a DVD at home can keep you going. There might be other fitness type DVD possibilities?

How about skipping? Not sure I could keep going for 10 minutes though... never mind half an hour 🤔

Well that’s week one done, 30 minute steady jog on Monday, an hour on the turbo Tuesday, Wednesday was 30 minutes rowing machine. Thursday was a little more tricky, I was alone with the eldest (2 1/2 years old) but we went for a walk around together. Friday was a big one, 100 mile ride with work (raising money for wateraid), Saturday morning I went out on the mtb for a steady ride out to the local bike shop/cafe, MrsMomo drove out to meet me there for breakfast and then loaded the bike on the car for the return leg. This evening was another steady jog (and I do mean steady, barely above walking pace but it was enough to get the heart rate up and raise a bit of sweat!)
Thanks for putting this out there, it gave me the kick I needed to sort my head out, I’ve been struggling to shift the weight I put on after our second child came along in March, in the last 2 weeks I’ve dropped 4kg already and I’m feeling better about myself.
Turbo session tomorrow morning to kick off week 2, bring it on!

I'm in on this, last year managed every day from 01/09 to 30/12 (Took 31/12 off to avoid becoming obsessed and start again in the new year).

Currently ontop of it based mostly on morning turbo training and CX racing.

Response isn't necessarily what we're after, just everyone achieving the goal. It was posted earlier, but I don't think everyone wants to post every day. I think it's chugging along at about the same rate as the STW Chub Club posts.

I'm in a bit of a conundrum about my exercise for today - I rode the medium way to work, 14 miles instead of 4, and it was 35 minutes longer than my normal commute and I was hauling for a lot of it. But I'm not riding home, I have to be on site and take the van. So, compared to a normal commuting day I'm actually only 15 minutes up - does we reckon that counts? I know it's sort of my party, my rules but I think I've been hoisted by my own petard of "normal commutes don't count".

One of the joys of this challenge is that you realise that it's not actually that bad going out in the rain. It's never as bad as you think, and then it sets you up for the rest of the winter.

I love the feeling of overcoming adversity when having ridden in the rain. Just accept you’re going to get wet, work hard to keep warm then bask in the glory.

I tried to squeeze a quick lunchtime run in today, but was distracted by worrying about being late back for a meeting... Checked my Strava upload later and saw I was 6 seconds short 😢 (29mins 54secs)!!

Sitting in bed, typing this and feeling guilty. I'm going to have to get up and do a star jump or something 🙄😄

Ride to work all last week. Took my lad to the bike park for the first time on Saturday, lovely weather and he's now hot a taste for riding downhill 🙂 Went swimming with the youngest yesterday. Back to commuting today but added 5 sets of 50 press ups during the work day, that's this weeks plan. Thursday I'm out of the office all day so need to come up with something, may resort to one of the wife's Davina dvds in the evening... other suggestions welcome!

In general I think this is a grand idea, but (especially if you are getting on a bit) it's probably a good idea to have at least one day off a week to let your body recover.

Depends how much exercise you're doing, and to what intensity, but not recovering can store up problems. I speak from experience.

Definitely, I've had at least two walks since starting as a bit of active recovery. I keep saying I'm going to do a bit of foam rolling and stretching too....just not got round to it yet.

I'm personally quantifying the daily activity as something physical that I have purposefully set out to do in the name of the challenge, doesn't need to be beasting it all the time. And fwiw I'm hoping to get as much variety in as possible, going to go snowboarding Thursday or Friday.

I saw this thread a while ago and thought it was a great idea. I missed a day yesterday. But I'm in the process of moving house so will have to make it up. Mostly been doing bodyweight exercises I found on YouTube. Will be getting out on the CX bike once I'm in the new place. Lots to explore.

Would love to get out running. But it just hurts so won't be doing that.

THe weather forced me into taking drastic action today. I couldnt work (I'm a window cleaner), so after doing a few errands I dug an old turbo trainer out of the shed and went hell for leather on it for 30 minutes while listening to Magi radio. 30 minutes is 30 m inutes right?

Yeah, this afternoon's ride was wet.

Today was tough to get motivated, yesterday I had to fit in a workout around a day hand digging pits followed by doing emergency response to an oil spill and I was pooped but once I was out on the bike I loved it. Bikes are great.

Well, I only read this thread last night. What a great thing to do OP. I am too late to do the 100 days, but I’ll try and do the 90 days now left.

I am a middle aged biker, with kids, so know what a huge benefit regular exercise can be. I also happen to be trying to learn how to manual and ride drops, so I am going to try and combine the exercise with the much needed practice. Weather look perfect to be on the bike 🙃

It's never as bad as you'd think - there was a bit of rain this morning and the ground was very wet but (other than a puncture) it was actually a pretty pleasant (and pretty fast) gravel ride for me this morning.

Looks like it might be a bit more pleasant next week so grit your teeth everyone and enjoy yourself in a few days' time.

I've managed to do every day. My usual amounts of biking and climbing so far, but I've managed a definite increase in the amount of walking I'm doing and had my first ever go at Yoga

Yep, it's a struggle to fit everyday in.

Tomorrow will be walking again as I have an early train to Reading for work followed by a day of meetings as and a train back.

Will get there early and walk for 30 minutes.

Planning a run and ride this afternoon, although the run will be short and slow with the missis, as I'm looking after a torn knee ligament that refuses to go away.

And yes, us oldies need to consider active recovery days rather than smashing a session every day.

And I think that it's the spirit of the challenge that counts I.e. taking the long commute, or 29 minutes and 54 seconds ends!

I needed an easy day yesterday, an hour of stretching and using the old foam roller but as a result, felt right up for it today with a 25 miles road ride after work. The boy is still on it every day, now mixing 30 minutes hoola hooping with his trampolining. Starting to feel better, good appetite and getting out of bed seems easier?

I haven't done much cycling yet, no time. I've mostly been doing NTC sessions and yoga for half an hour before bed. Yesterday a traffic jam got me off the bus and brisk walking up the hill for 15 mins. I'm counting stuff like that but am on holiday next week so will make time for more quality. Today - lunchtime run.

The feeling of possibly missing a day isn't nice! I hope this lasts beyond 100 days.

A walk on Wednesday and some stretching last night, nearly missed yesterday as I'm decorating and really was trying to find a way to cop out. Stretching was tough enough. Quick indoor row this morning and back to decorating.

Still on this...
A few times I've counted my cycle commute if fitting in extra sports has been a challenge, but i AM normally carrying 2 kids on teh back, and total time is always >30 min, so there!

Did a killer session in the gym yesterday... pulling the weighted sled over and over till i nearly passed out and was dripping with sweat! Lush!

Getting me back into running too, which will be needed as entered the Brighton Half for 2020..

DrP

EDIT - was 1st on the leaderboard last week...2nd this week, so not too shabby!

Weather means I'm on rollers for today's effort. I'm usually pretty active but I've lost 2kg in two weeks. To be fair I am also on reduced calories.
BMI changed from 27.3 to 26.5. (I'm never getting to, nor have I ever been in the good BMI zone,) 74.4kg to 72.3kg at 165cm

^ good going!

I had a great ride yesterday. One of those evenings following a long day at work, rubbish weather, couldn't be bothered... normally I would have sacked it off, but not wanting to 'fail' so early in the challenge I pulled my old, rigid, single speed, rockhopper out of the garage and aimed to do a minimum 30 minutes along the cycle path.

90 minutes later I was soaked, filthy and grinning like a loon. The cycle path ran into the golf course, which led to a lovely rooty section of forestry and down to the reservoir. Pretty much all off road from my door, tracks that I haven't thought to explore before - loved it 🙂

Today's wet lunchtime run however... not so good 😉

10/10 flowerpower!

I rode to a site today and had to be home early. I'd meant to have a gentle ride to recover but then set off late so had to really smash it out. It was great.

I seem to be bending my own rules a bit...did manage a walk yesterday but I was mostly taking pictures. Not exactly exercise, did need a bit of head space as the house prepared for an 11yr old girl sleepover. And today I did go swimming but it was with the lad and we more played and jumped about than actually swam. So two days of not exactly exercise but did get out and about, did do a couple of hours decorating all the same.
