I want to put a bit more travel on my X1, looking at a Rev Air U-Turn 100-130mm, The plan would be to dump the headset spacer so that it can sit down low on real granny gear crawls to keep my weight forward, but be able to sit up a bit on the 130mm travel for down hills. I'm a bit worried that 130mm is quite a bit over the reccomended although I know it's fairly common to change to 120mm forks.
Any thoughts?

i don't think it's so much a case of the handlebar height (which can be compensated for by the stem/spacer heights), but any effect on the headtube angle.

10mm is pretty minimal though i would have thought. set a bit more sag and off you go! lol... i also believe that many rs forks fail to realise their full travel length anyway (but i might be wrong on that)

Are you interested the roof rack as you mention on email that you will buy it last week, but you are not replying back my emails or letting me know what's happening, I miss the ebay free listing day by holding them for you.

Hi Rainbow, Genuinly confused here, the only contact I've had with you is via this thread
http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fs-thule-591-roof-rack
I've not emailed you at all? what email address are you sending it to? Does it have 'wes' in it? I have no idea of any agreed price etc, although at the right price I would buy, what would you take for it collected?

Back to too long forks, yes I understand that the head angle is going to change. At 100mm the bikes designed for it and is full on XC racer feel. At 120, I've only ridden one for a very short while but felt OK. I'd assume that the extra 10mm would make it that bit more slack (no bad thing for just the downhills?) and the extra travel would be nice on a lot of the trail centre type descents where the arms take a real battering (mind you, less so than on the rigid Orange Clockwork!!!).
The height of the bars is secondary but also important to me, quite a lot of the places I ride have sustained, lowest possible gear climbs where traction is pretty good, so tipping over the back is a distinct possibility prior to spinning out.
Basically, I'm worried that the frame will be broken due to the additional leverage of the longer forks....

I wouldn't like to say, but I'm getting away with 150mm on my TranceX which came with 120mm forks. I have sagged the fork quite a lot which actually makes it track very well.

It's worth losing all the headset spacers to keep the bars around the same height. You will notice that the BB is higher - which is good for not pedal striking, but it affects the cornering a little. I increased the rear sag a bit to lower the BB - it's slightly soggy feeling, but finally pro-pedal has some use on a Giant bike.

Looking at the design of the 2008 TranceX, the headtube and the weld areas are large, and the headtube itself has a semi integrated headset, with strong rings top and bottom. Who knows if I will break it, but it looked beefy enough to me. [crosses everything] Good luck!

I run 130mm forks on a frame tuned for 100mm and designed for a max of 120mm. I like a soft setup so sag into the zone.

I ran 130mm on the 100mm original Trance, I'd have thought it'll be fine. If anything the handling will suffer, in which case wind it in a bit.

My 100mm Trance rides far better with a 130 Rev on it then it ever did with a 100mm Reba that I tried first.Climbs better too but that might just be my lack of bendyness....

My Anthem descends so much better with 120mm forks and the climbing is not too compromised. The extra 10mm probably shouldn't be a problem.. or just don't turn the forks all the way up!
