You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
my 9 speed triple stuff is close to worn out so will need new chain / cassette / middle ring soon
so if I converted to 10 speed double, think I would need
- 10 speed cassette and chain (so no real increase in cost over 9 speed I will need anyway)
- 10 speed shifter (additional cost £45 ish)
- 10 speed mech (additional cost £60 ish)
- 10 speed chainrings I **think** will fit on my 9 speed XT cranks ?? is that right? so additional cost is just for inner ring as need new middle one anyway
or would I need a 10 speed crankset?
am thinking net upgrade cost about £120 ish
thanks
You're right on what you need, mech available more cheaply from Germany (assuming XT), dunno about single shifters, must be available though, and again will likely be cheapest from German shops.
Don't need 10 speed rings, just need rings in ratios of your choosing.
cheers njee
so 9 speed rings are same thickness as 10 speed?
and yes was thinking german shops for most stuff, new style M786 mech 80 euros but could go cheaper. CRC do single shifters
Indeed they are the same.
You are, sir, a font of all knowledge !
While you are there....... Would 24 / 38 work, or too big a jump? Thinking 26 inner may not giv00 44 1959 563078e me a low enough gear - I'm no whippet and currently use 22 / 30 and 22 / 32 a fair amount, although rarely 22 / 34
Alternatively 24 / 36
Yep 24/38 will work fine, not sure I need the phone number in the middle there though 😉
Darling!
Don't know how that got there. Don't worry not mine !
