I may be completely wrong, but...
Only real difference between 10 and 9 speed is that the OD of the 10 speed chain is narrower than 9 speed due to narrower outside plates?
Or to put it simply, can I use a flash 10 speed twin ring chainset without changing my basically brand spanking new 9 speed cassette, chain and shifters?

my girlfriends bike has a 10spd Shimano chainset working fine with an 8spd SRAM chain+cassette.
