Right,
How many of you guys would trust a carbon full suspension frame that i picked up yesterday for £10?
I think this has the potential to be an interesting thread 😆
Useless without pics
Pics will be uploaded tomorrow...
£10 off a mate who wanted rid I'd trust, £10 to a guy selling crap at a car boot, run away it'll explode....
One pound fish?
David Dickinson?
seller dependant - not without history
Not a guy I knew but it was at a second hand bike jumble in the car park of a bike shop so it wasn’t a carboot sale.
is it a new Planet- x one?
Straight no then.
a certain Marin from a certain bike jumble near some docks perchance?
Depends how deep they'd gone with the grinder to remove the frame number.
I'd trust it in the same way I'd trust a £10 tv, or a bloke selling an expensive watch via classifieds on a mtb website.
It includes a shock lol
so its either cracked or stolen then ?
Spot on Kier, were you a seller or a buyer there?
I've checked the frame number online and all is good. No stolen ad's either so i think its alright
I'm a regular buyer and seller there. The seller is well known and can be trusted.
What frame was it? Love a good bargain!
If it was a frame I'd want to build up and ride definitely. I'm pretty sure I'd be able to check if it was cracked or something. But if it was just old and outdated why bother even if it was free ?
Thank you for that piece of mind @Keir. He seemed genuine, i also got a set of SPD's off him for my SSCX build for next to nothing. He did say that the frame is fine...
I was indecisive about buying it, but my motive for eventually buying the frame was to hang in the garage as a cool feature. But, after researching the bike and staring at it for a while, i want to see if i can get it out on the trail.
Its a Marin Attack Trail XT Pro. Turns out to be a £5k bike when new. Believe it to be either 2014/15, so its far from old and outdated!
Quite a thing of beauty in person. Only issue is its missing the rear end and all fixtures/fittings! It might just make an awesome project
nothing a spoon or two won't fix.

lol the £10 frame, can we take bets on the cost to get it running 😉
Looks like a perfect time to try making your own carbon (rear end of a) frame.
i'd be on the lookout for someone who's smashed theirs into a tree and broken the front end now...

I'd be out then, good luck finding the bits you need !!!
I tried selling a complete, fully working and very very nice 26" FS frame for £60 and got no bites.
A matching rear end would be nice, yes. A custom steel rear end would be an awesome project however!

But once you have the rear end, you could make a nice custom front end for it 😉
Carbon tallbike!
Ah miss selling thread title....what you have there is half a frame.

This...
I was expecting a complete, but battered frame...
So are you going to try and hunt down the components for the rest of the frame, or go wild and franken-bike a new back end from string, paper mache and spoons?
IMHO OPs got two options
1) speak to Marin / Distributor and get a price for a rear end plus linkages etc - £500 id guess.
2) hang it up in the shed and trawl the classified for a smashed bike for monthe, years the sell it for £10 😉
actually this does remind me of the £100 dropouts for the DH frame that I got for £50 and a six pack of beer
Let’s just say I’ve been In talks with a fellow rider in the US with this same frame. He will be sending me through dimensions of the rocker links. I have leverage ratio and wheel path graphs for the Quad 3 suspension, along with the frames geometry.
I’m studying an engineering degree, so I believe that this will be a fun project outside of my studies.
I saw that one as well whilst I was there. Didn't put two and two together from the thread title, because as said it's only half a frame!
Time to get the 3d printer fired up......
What a bargain!
This one's a grand. https://www.cycleswitch.com/marin-attack-trail-pro-2016-27-5-20?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvJPuwL7j1gIVyp3tCh2I1QBWEAYYASABEgIFy_D_BwE
It is a whole frame mind but let's not get sidetracked by mere details.
I’m studying an engineering degree
Ah, your an engineer. That's all good then.
jokey comments aside, I reckon that's a cool buy for a tenner and if you have the time could be the catalyst for a great project.
I'm far from an engineer right now, but with my degree, i have access to a workshop and CAD software, and i have a goal to get this thing on the trails!
If i find out the frame is kaput, it will be made into a 'deer head' wall piece!
Hopefully that's not the case, and therefore i'll be able to keep this thread updated with progress.
My next objective is to clean the frame up and go over it with a fine eye, looking for any signs of damage, before i commit any more time to the project
Oh dear oh dear oh dear, it's a marin, shoulda stepped away and ran the other way.
It'll no doubt self destruct just by looking at it.
Failing this happening, why not be even more materialistic and chuck it in the sea.
Seriously though best waste of £10 ever so thumbs up on that! 😈
Edit) if you're indeed planning to get this bk on the trail, best bet is to wear a full face.
😆
Hope you manage to build it up. Keep the updates coming.

Please keep the receipts...

I'd trust the front end more than the back end. Good luck though if you have the time and the inclination!
