I need to replace a worn out rear mech and shifter so thought I'd swap out the cranks as well and go for a 1x setup for simplicity. Am I likely to notice the one or two larger jumps on a 10spd cassette versus an 11spd cassette with the same range?
Can you buy an 11 speed with same range?
Actual question not trying to be clever
Sorry, typo in the original post - I meant 11-42 not 10-42.
Sunrace do a 10spd 11-42t (do a quick search on your favourite Irish bike parts website)
and SRAM NX/Shimano SLX/XT are 11spd 11-42 as well.
TBH jumps are all about you, some people care about it, some don't. I can't stand a narrow ratio cassette, I just end up double shifting all of the time, so fair to say, I wouldn't care about the differences here.
It's all about range for me. I'm about the only one running 10 speed in my group these days, but it's fine. 10spd is still significantly cheaper too.
Don't mind me, I'm just going to pull up a chair and see if anyone has anything interesting to say about them there sunrace cassettes...
Carry on.
I've had the black one with the al big sprocket on since march and I can confirm that broadly, it is a cassette. Only real point of note is that until recently it had a bit of a problem with dropping the chain on back pedalling in the lowest two, but it seems to have settled down. Which is odd, because i would consider it to be starting to wear out rather than wear in based on how long a normal xt lasts me.
That's with a rad cage.
sunrace mx 11-42 10 speed here done hundreds of km, still happy
Im in no rush to go 11 speed
11 speed is one better that 10 so should win every time.
