Im in Chamonix for the week with my road bike, but can hear the mountain trails calling!
Planning on hiring a mtb for the day amd would like a long ish ride (dont mind a bit of climbing).
Does anyone have any suggestions of where to head for the day?

Tbh I'd try and find a guiding / holiday company and tag on one of their rides
With only one day to spare some local knowledge would be worth it
I am sat with the Chamonix Bike Book on my desk ! Drop into Zero-G (90 Ave Ravanel le Rouge) and either buy a copy or ask them. FYI the book recommends an XC ride around the petit-balcon ("Chamoix Classic") but I did that and was dissapointed. Get up high as I recall most of the lifts are still runnning and cycle ban is over. Either Les Houches end or La Tour and do the trails over there inc some to the Swiss side (eg Tirent vis the Cross) then ride back via Vollorcine on the road (IGN map 3630 T)
