Just came across this https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/swytch-the-world-s-smallest-lightest-ebike-kit#/
Not really considered the eBike concept until I came across this but if I can easily transfer it between my bike or my wife's then this looks to be a winner. And only 1.5kg. For 50km range. If it looks to good to be true...perhaps it is.
The hub is 1.5kg .
The base battery is another 3.35kg. and that's not the 50km one.
Other than their marketing I'm not seeing what the big deal is over other conversions on the market.
Looks like a Bafang motor, which is around 1.2kg so I'm sceptical about 1.5kg.
[Edit]Oh.. Trail_rat beat me!
Its a small front hub motor. Fine for pootling arround. Im tempted for my Ofo.
Cant be swapped afaik, theres a cadence sensor. And you would still need the bracket, wiring etc.
Sure I read the battery was also 1.5kg. Anyway, as it's a hub motor it's only swappable if your wifes bike has the same size wheel.
Oh aye, and cadence sensor. Hadn't picked up on that. Swytch is a misnomer then.
The eco is battery is 5.2Ah while the pro and tour are 7Ah and 14Ah respectively.
Looks like it's been nicely packaged. For the price (I'm a bit sceptical about the 50% off claim) it seems to be around the same value you would expect from a normal front hub conversion kit.
What other CHEAP options are there for a 700c disc wheel? This is to aid pulling a fully laden trailer in hilly sheffield!
Yes battery claimed weight is 1.5kg. The hub motor is also claimed at 1.5kg, which I don't think is the lightest 250w motor.

Battery claimed weight can be what ever it wants to be.
Battery actual weight as weighed by many reviewers is 3.35kg .
So either they are sending out bigger batteries to reviewers telling them they are the eco so the reviewers think they are getting a great milage Or the battery is heavier that they say
unfortunatly the tech available makes the weight. Want a 250w montor - then its got a certain minimum base weight. Batteries - the same applies
Wheel motors are not great on hills anyway
I have a 175 Wh e-bike battery on my desk that weighs 950 g fully sealed in a strong alloy casing. It's good for hauling my 10 year daughter around for a good few hours at a decent pace (I can't live with her on steep climbs) with a 2 kg hub motor. There is a larger 250 Wh battery, weighing 1.3 kg. So I don't see why this battery needs to be 3.35 kg for that kind of casual use? So it's either not very good tech or there is more to the story.
So it’s either not very good tech or there is more to the story.
Like I said earlier, there are three different batteries. 5.2Ah, 7Ah, and 14Ah. The 5.2Ah one can't be much above 1.5kg but they are most likely sending the 14Ah one out to be reviewed.
All that kit can be had now with a bottle battery on ebay, or if you really want cheap Alibaba.
Can you link to it please?
So if it can all be had already how can they claim the smallest lightest etc?
