Morning all 🙂
Just picked up a used '09 Trance X5 as a replacement for the OH, having some issues with the front shifter. Spec is standard - Shimano M442 chainset (Octalink), Deore Mega9 front mech and shifter. Seller replaced the BB but chainline seems spot on at 50mm.
Problem is that with the mech stops wound all the way out and no cable tension, in the two lowest sprockets the chain is rubbing on the inner face of the mech. AFAIK it hasn't been moved from its factory position. It also means that in the same sprockets the same is happening on the middle ring.
I'm stumped - any ideas!?
I had the same frame but never had this problem
Yeah, I used to have an '09 X4 and that shifted perfectly so struggling to see what's going on here - it's like the front mech isn't retracting close enough to the frame but I've no idea why.
If you undo the bolt that holds the cable on the mech, does it come all the way in now?
Is it clean?
Are the limit screws in too far?
Has the mech twisted and moved away from the frame?
Mech has been removed, cleaned, checked for damage, refitted in the original position parallel to chainrings, limit screws are both would out and cable is disconnected. No dice!
I've stripped and rebuilt several bikes so I generally know what I'm doing but this is the first thing that's ever gotten me stumped!
