It’s mountain bike World Champs time! When are things happening exactly?

For reasons of clarity (and other things) we’re just going to pretend the ebike and pumptrack etc World Champs don’t exist and get straight to the classic disciplines.
In terms of watching the events on your telly/phone/computer, as usual the BBC will be showing some of the racing via the iPlayer Red Button thingy. And Warners Brothers Discovery+ will also being broadcasting stuff via its usual pay-to-view channels/sites/apps.
The Valais area of Switzerland is pretty big. Each different discipline is taking place quite far from one another. The XC Short Track is in Zermatt, the XC Olympic is in Crans-Montana and the Downhill will be in Champéry.

Can’t wait to listen to the BBC commentators who have never seen a DH race before.
Acting like every rider on track has a shot at winning. Turning up the volume for every Brit. Trying to keep the hype alive to the end of every run even though someone was 3 seconds back at the final split.
Well that’s my weekend sorted 🙂Â
Is there any way to see what/when the BBC are showing? Doesn’t look great on the results google gives, https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b095szlg
Might need to take the normal approach – ask teenage son to find the stream somewhere. Longest it’s taken in 2 minutes.
The BBC are frustratingly cagey about what they will be broadcasting live eh?Â
They’re not gonna get much of an audience if nobody knows if and when they’ll be showing it.
Â
That sounds pretty similar to the Discovery commentators minus the volume for Brits. A least the BBC ones might not go on and on about Santa Cruz V10’s.
Â
Mods – can we try have one thread for all the Worlds chat? Can we make it this one!? (Maybe a title change?)
Â
Anyway….
Â
You know when you ride something really, really steep and terrifying, and yet on camera it looks tame?
Â
Well this looks absolutely horrendous! Look at how quick the track drops away!
Â
Â
Here’s a clip from the boy from last years Euro Champs.
He still rates it as the toughest track he’s ridden.
Jackson just chatting away like he’s chilling on the chairliftÂ
I rode Champery on my Lapierre Spicy back in 2012. At the time I was also a volunteer patroller at Nevis Range and was comfortable lapping the WC track repeatedly, so I thought I’d manage it fine… Champery was on another level! Sooooo steep.Â
And posting these here as inevitably this run will be mentioned multiple times over the weekend (or perhaps multiple times in one sentence by Ric), so you might as well rewatch them now:
Â
Did you forget to mention the Enduro too, or does that come into the same category as ebikes and pumptrack?!?!
The Enduro WCs happened on Monday. Not that anyone knew about it.
Â
I watched it on various riders YouTube channels and the YouTube highlights, looked quite a courseÂ
Â
They actually broadcast the final stage live, as you say its a shame nobody knew about it before it had been on

10.00am today for Qually for the junior female.
10.30 onwards for Junior male.
Racing is on tomorrow on Discovery+ (not checked iPlayer) 9.55am junior girls, going on until 1.20pm for the boys.
How many juniors qualify for the finals tomorrow?
20 girls and 60 boys, so Megan and Heather are in i believe
60 out of 75? So not at all like the World Cup where only 20 out of 80 odd get to ride the final.
That gives them a much better chance of showing what they can do!
rode Champery a few times, I mean ‘rode’
it was a bit of a problem that it would take the best part of the day to get there from Morzine so usually we had time for 1 run then had to rush back. The first time was in 2010 and I could barely let my brakes go as I didn’t know what horrors were round the corner. I had the Earthed 5 footage fresh in mind all the way down
second time in 2011 (only a month or two before the Danny Hart win I suppose) and I felt I knew the track better. Managed to link some sections together and kind of rode it.
In 2013, We were with some German guys who were desperate to find the lower section after the road due to its legendary status and ‘look at the whip’ etc.. It was easy to find albeit on private land. Looked at the jumps and step downs – no way. I wasn’t confident racking up any speed on that hill at all.
I always heard that the 2011 track had been nerfed a bit since the 2007 WC. And it truly was nasty AF then
Not listed anywhere on iPlayer
I guess we just have to see if we can find it on the iPlayer when the event is started.
Does anyone know where will be best to look in the app?
