If you’ve spent any time on social media, at Dyfi Bike Park, or here in the pages of Singletrack World, you’ll surely already know about the ‘TrailRippers’ Nathan and Ruben de Vaux. We first encountered them at Dyfi Bike Park, jibbing around in wellies on a ‘borrowed’ Atherton bike, and doing their best to phot bomb our video interview. Skills on the bike and in getting media coverage that will surely be useful to them as they work towards their World Cup ambitions?!
Their feature ‘Finding the Flow’ in issue 151 of Singletrack Magazine gave a bit of a deep dive into what neurodiversity brings to their riding. That article was written by their mum, Ina, who is the backbone of all the boys do. Their video – directed and edited by Andy McCandlish – gives a little more spotlight to Ina, and her perspectives here will likely strike a chord with many a parent. Finding ways to make your kids thrive, even when what they love scares you a bit. Hoping that you can help their dreams become a reality, even when those dreams come with big price tags. Picking them up when they fall. It’s all normal the parenting challenges – just for Ina and the boys, it all happens on a pretty epic scale. Enjoy!
Flow features The Trailrippers – Nathan and Ruben de Vaux – two mountain biking brothers from the Dyfi Valley in Mid Wales who are already making their mark on the British MTB scene. Mountain biking mean everything to Nathan and Ruben and this short film tells their family story with the help of their Mum, Ina. Together, they tell us how they first got into riding and then racing and the benefits and challenges that neurodivergence brings to their riding and how riding bikes helps them regulate their lives. Flow sees The Trailrippers riding on their home trails, at Dyfi Bike Park and the Glencoe round of the British Cycling National Downhill Series in 2023.
