Evie Richards and Tom Pidcock to Represent GB in Tokyo

A few weeks ago we wrote a piece about mountain biking at the Olympics and the wait to find out who would represent Great Britain. Earlier today, British Cycling announced that Evie Richards and Tom Pidcock will compete in the Games.

In the men’s mountain bike event, the reigning under-23 World Champion Tom Pidcock is making an excellent recovery from his broken collarbone, thanks to the collaborative support from the medical staff at the Great Britain Cycling Team and at his trade team, and is set to make his first appearance at Olympic level, while Evie Richards will also make her Olympic debut in the women’s mountain bike race.

Evie posted on her Instagram about the news:

At 11 years old I watched the Olympics and from that moment it became my dream to compete. I took up every sport you could imagine, hoping one day I’d be part of the games. At around 16 I started racing my bike. At 18 I got selected to be on the Olympic development pathway and at 20 I joined Trek. Today at 24 I have reached my dream as I have been selected to represent Team GB at the Olympic Games. All the love to my family who helped me achieve our dream.

Tom is yet to say anything in relation to the news, but after coming back from surgery a few weeks ago, we can imagine he’s happy to be in the position to be able to go.

Not too good about writing about myself, but not so bad at writing about other things. There was a time that I hated bikes, but then they became my life. Wouldn't be the person I am if I hadn't been on this journey. Here's to bikes, drinking tea and everything that comes with life on two wheels. I'm Lauren, I like bikes and writing about them. Always trying my best and up for adventures.

  1. such a shame that we missed out on the 2nd women’s place by a narrow margin – would have been great to have seen Annie Last compete as well

  2. @darlobiker I would be surprised if you couldn’t, Olympic organisers/teams tend to like athletes that double up as the number of athletes they have to house/cater for drops. I remember Nick Craig riding on the road in the Olympics as well as the MTB.
