Specialized UK HQ Devastated By Fire

Specialized UK HQ Devastated By Fire

Over the weekend, Specialized’s UK headquarters has been significantly affected by a fire. At present investigators are on site establishing where on the industrial park the fire started.

The London Fire Brigade’s record of the incident states:

Twelve fire engines and around eighty firefighters tackled a fire at Barwell Business Park on Leatherhead Road in Chessington.

A warehouse unit was destroyed by the blaze. Fire crews deployed a drone to provide an aerial view of the blaze and used aerial ladder appliances as they worked to bring the blaze under control. There were no reports of any injuries.

Station Commander Neil Guyett, who attended the scene, said: “Fire crews arrived to find a well-developed fire and worked hard to bring it under control in what was a protracted incident. There was thick smoke issuing across the business park.”

The Brigade was called at 1836 and the fire was under control by 2225. Fire crews from Surbiton, Kingston, Sutton, Twickenham, Croydon and Norbury fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to be accidental but the cause has been recorded as undetermined.

The official statement from Specialized reads:

‘Over the weekend, we were notified that a fire had affected our UK headquarters. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but sadly the fire had a devastating effect to our offices. While there will be short-term changes to certain business operations in the UK, our warehouse is located elsewhere and therefore, our operations for riders and retailers are not impacted. We are working closely with the authorities to understand more about what happened.

As we get any further information on this story we’ll let you know. It’s good to know the Specialized UK warehouse is unaffected, so the new products are safe, but fingers crossed they haven’t lost any of the historical bikes or memorabilia that usually decorate an HQ.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

  1. I heard this fire was Epic, and was caused by a possible faulty Fuse, I do hope they get up and running soon and their Status quo can found once again. No trade marks were hurt in the making of this comment.

  2. Oh good news all the Specialized Lawyers are safe. (Said no-one ever). 😉

Genuinely good that folk are unharmed and that there is no major loss of stock.
