Mavic calls in the receivers amid confusion over who owns the company

As a brand Mavic has been associated strongly with the Tour de France for over 40 years, supplying the iconic fleet of support vehicles and mechanics. But in news reported by cyclingnews.com, the French company has brought in receivers on the back of a thumping end of year loss.

The waters get a little murky when you look into who owns the famous French wheel making brand. Former owner, Finnish company, Amer Sports and its subsidiary, Salomon owned Mavic up until it was sold in 2019, apparently to a Californian based investment company called Regent LP. However, investigations by the receivers have revealed that in fact the company was bought not by Regent LP but by M Sports, a company based in Delaware, US.

The French court appointed liquidator is investigating the provenance of the past deal. In the meantime we presume a new owner is being sought.
