Last month, we caught wind of a brand new carbon enduro bike from Kiwi brand Zerode Bikes. Called the Taniwha, this is only Zerode’s second model, joining the existing downhill bike. Unique for many reasons, the Taniwha has been causing quite a stir amongst our Singletrack readers.

During this year’s Eurobike show, we tracked down the owner of Zerode Bikes, Rob Metz, to get a closer look at his new bike. Zerode Bikes is a one-man show, so Rob is also the designer and engineering brains behind the Taniwha. For lots of detailed photos and further information about the Taniwha, make sure you check out our first look article of the Zerode Taniwha from Eurobike. Otherwise, watch the below video to hear Rob talk about his latest creation and to find out what’s so special bout it.

  1. Because of the dual-cable design of the Pinion gearbox, currently a rotary shifter is the only workable solution. Same goes for Rohloff internal gear hubs as well.

However, French gearbox manufacturer Effigear do use a trigger shifter for their design, but the system requires an external spring to make it all work properly.

As gearbox systems become more commonplace however, we’d expect to see more shifting solutions emerge.

    Wil
