New Pivot imminent – the Switchblade

An intriguing photo has just appeared on Pivot Cycle’s front page of a new bike – the Switchblade.

We don’t have any details as if yet, but Chris Cocalis, who now runs Pivot, ran Titus once upon a time. And around ten to twelve years ago, Titus had a bike called (drumroll, please) the Switchblade… Coincidence?

That bike converted from 4 inches to 5.5 inches of travel – might this one do the same? Squinting at the bits of the bike we can see suggests a full suspension machine with perhaps chubby tyres? Maybe the Switch thing refers to swopping out 29in and 27.5+ wheels and tyres as well as travel?

Whatever, in keeping with the rest of the Pivot range it’ll likely sport DW-Link suspension. Colour us intrigued.

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.

  1. I guess a blurred line exists separating the marketing hype of Danny Macaskill videos from the marketing hype of an imminent product launch?

  2. 29/650b+ would be my guess.

I also guess that this hype was discovered while doing the rounds of bike company websites rather than a bike company emailing info about said hype.
