Eurobike 2015: Gloworm

There’s been a bit of uncertainty in the past year with Gloworm, but we’re pleased to say they once again have a UK distributor in ISON. As well as telling us that, at Eurobike they took us through their new and updated range of lights for 2016.

The CX700 is a completely new light aimed at commuters, though there will be a brighter version too. While it might not be the most extreme, ultra-high lumen off road light, it has some clever features and we could see it being well suited to people trekking or doing less extreme night riding.

A prototype of the upcoming CX700, which has 700 lumens of output. It’s meant to be a commuter light, but there will also be an 1100 lumen version.

Covered Micro USB port in the bottom. As well as charging the light through it, you can use it as a battery pack to charge other gadgets.

The X700 actually fits on a Garmin mount. The familiar design of Gloworm’s QR handlebar mount was shown here in a carbon fibre reinforced nylon version.

The X2 has updated looks, and will ship with the new carbon reinforced nylon mount (As will the X1, though it seems the XS will still have a machined aluminium QR mount).

David started mountain biking in the 90’s, by which he means “Ineptly jumping a Saracen Kili Racer off anything available in a nearby industrial estate”. After growing up and living in some extremely flat places, David moved to Yorkshire specifically for the mountain biking. This felt like a horrible mistake at first, because the hills are so steep, but you get used to them pretty quickly. Previously, David trifled with road and BMX, but mountain bikes always won. He’s most at peace battering down a rough trail, quietly fixing everything that does to a bike, or trying to figure out if that one click of compression damping has made things marginally better or worse. The inept jumping continues to this day.

  1. Love my X2 – beautifully engineered little light.
    But it really needs a beam-shaper lens or diffuser for use on the road, as even on low lumen settings and angled low it can still be quite dazzling for oncoming traffic.
