DMR had a couple of new things to show: A new grip designed with DMR rider Brendog, and the relaunched DMR Trailstar.

Originally hailing from 1996, the first Trailstar was among the very first hardcore hardtails, built for strength and aggressive riding. After a break, they’ve brought it back for 2016, all updated-like.

Tapered head tube. It’s interesting to see DMR and Haro both departing from the 44mm standard.

The gusset probably helps the taper of the head tube blend in with the skinny steel tubing.

The inside of the grips tapers to provide quite a good lock without any other retention, and a single lock on clamp goes behind the flange.

David started mountain biking in the 90’s, by which he means “Ineptly jumping a Saracen Kili Racer off anything available in a nearby industrial estate”. After growing up and living in some extremely flat places, David moved to Yorkshire specifically for the mountain biking. This felt like a horrible mistake at first, because the hills are so steep, but you get used to them pretty quickly. Previously, David trifled with road and BMX, but mountain bikes always won. He’s most at peace battering down a rough trail, quietly fixing everything that does to a bike, or trying to figure out if that one click of compression damping has made things marginally better or worse. The inept jumping continues to this day.

  1. that trailstar is utterly awful. youve ruined it DMR

    trailstars should only ever be a simple double diamond frame made out of nice, strong, heavy, steel.

    not this gopping monstrosity that looks like it has fallen out of the ugly tree.. hit every branch on the way down.. then climbed back up said tree.. and flung itself off again a second time for good measure.
