There’s a new app in the Apple App Store just for our subscribers. We’ve been sending out plastic members’ cards to our subscribers for many years now. A card that unlocks an ever growing number of great deals, offers and special treatment at bike shops and businesses around the country.
From exclusive discounts off bike holidays and top hotels to cake and coffee while you wait for your bike to be serviced, these are just some of the great deals on offer as a Singletrack Premier Subscriber. Now, all you need to access your members’ card details is a phone. Well, an iPhone at the moment but the Android version will happen soon too.
Not only does our new app store your subscriber details so you can flash it in your local bike shop but it also tells you where your nearest Premier dealer is and even plots a direct route there for you.

Non-Apple users can still flash a digital version of their members card by visiting their online members card here.

Cheers Patrick. Turned that on and I’ll sync with iTunes tonight so you get the reports.
iain1775: running iOS8.1 on my 4S here – it’s fine in my opinion.
Stoner, all the important people use iOS, it’s only the riff-raff who use Android 😉
And Patrick, should you venture about ten metres to your right, you’ll see that all the editorial staff have iPhones, and do things on Macs. Make of that what you will 🙂
Barney (no beard, some stubble, probably a stovetop coffee pot somewhere in the house, own a Volkswagen)
iOS8 is not recommended for 4s (just google it!) so sadly no app for me 🙁
dicky: iOS8.1 is fine on the 4S, particularly if you turn off the motion effects (Settings->General->Accessibility->Reduce Motion).
8.1 fixes a lot of the slowness that people were moaning about too:
http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/11/ios-8-1-1-said-to-address-iphone-4s-and-ipad-2-performance-problems/
It may well be fine, but I don’t have the space to install it and I’m not deleting half the stuff off my phone first
I also don’t trust it as far too many people reporting problems (as well as my work advising against it on our work iphone 4s’s so I can’t upgrade that one either)
It only takes a lot of space to install if you do it over the air (because it needs space to download it, space to unpack it, and space to backup while installing).
If you upgrade via iTunes you don’t need much space at all.
But fair enough. I’ve heard lots of horror stories too so I can understand the worries, but my experience is that it is absolutely fine. The only major pain is the copy+paste bug but that’s a general iOS8 thing rather than 4S specific.
Patrick: I synced this morning so you should have a nice stack of diagnostic logs from me now.
iOS 7 update: We’re looking at replacing the iOS 8 API dependencies in the next release. If we can replace them with iOS 7 compatible bits, we will.
Iain, to be clear I’m not trying to persuade you to move to iOS, however, my understanding is that iOS7 and 8 are pretty similar in size. Yes, if you want to do an “Over THe AIR” update you’ll need a load of free space to download, unpack, install etc, but if you do it via iTunes (Which is faster and safer IMO) you won’t need much if any extra space.
Regarding work advising against updates, are Apple still providing security updates for iOS7?
Edit: Just seen Graham’s comments after posting mine.
That article is referring to iOS 8.1.1 which isn’t out yet, but rumoured to be out today. My iPad 2 runs terribly on iOS8.1, I did a complete reset and it was no better, hoping 8.1.1 sorts things out.
I think we have identified the reason for the crashes.
Attempting to log in with a non-premier account will consistently crash and app. The app will subsequently crash when reopened.
You will need to delete the app, re-download and log in with a valid Premier account.
Also in a small number of cases, there are valid Premier users without addresses available via our API. If you are a Premier user and have a crashing app, please check we have your address by clicking on the “Premier” link in the main navigation menu at the top of this page. If there is no address displayed, please enter your address and submit it. The app should then work.
We’ll sort out better error handling and push an update as soon as possible.
That’s sorted it. All working perfectly now. Good job. 🙂
Plus I just discovered a couple of local Premier dealers I didn’t know about. Bonus!
I’m a premier member with a valid email address but the app still crashes for me.
It’s your physical address that it needs. Does your account page have your post address?
The stats suggest you are alienating nearly 40% of your website readership. So when do we expect to see an Android version?
It makes sense to get it working on the Apple IOS first. If you can get it stable on those bits of junk then Android is a doddle.
Android version will be launched when it’s ready. No reason iOS users should wait until then I’m sure you agree.
Crashes straight away for me 🙁
Love the idea of an app but not prepared to upgrade to ios8 I’m afraid..takes up most my memory…but it did get me thinking – does this mean a responsive version of the site could be on its way?
Ibnchris: as far as I know iOS 8 doesn’t take up significantly more space than iOS 7.
A couple of questions on the OS stats since you admit they don’t apply even to the staff in your office. Does anyone access using Mac or is that in the iOS category? (Bearing in mind Android is phone/tablet only and you’ve got separate categories for windows on PC and windows phone). And are you looking at page impressions or site users? I’m trying to figure out how all the people viewing the site at work are not making windows top.
