Fresh Goods XTR Special Part 2: Mechs and Shifters

Here’s the second instalment of our Fresh Goods XTR special. Here, we focus our attention (and Chipps’ lazer-guided video gaze) on the shifters and mechs:

XTR Shifters:

The shift levers are redesigned to echo Saint levers with a longer cable take-up thumb lever and a wider, double-shifting finger release lever. Textured carbon fibre features, along with skinny lever clamps and MOAR BALL BEARINGS for smoother shifts for longerer. Price: £74.99 per shifter.

XTR Front Mech

Well. Several things of note here – a front entry cable system and a horizontal pivot action, which apparently increases the efficiency of the cable pull by 30%. Looks funky too, but if you can’t get your head around it (I couldn’t, originally) then watch the video, where Chipps’ mellifluous tones will talk you through it. Price: £79.99

 

XTR Rear Mech

IMG_9841No enormous earth-shattering changes, but loads and loads of tweaks. There’s a modified parallelogram and repositioned jockey wheels to accommodate that extra large cassette, there’s a carbon fibre cage and you can also run it with a direct mount rear-mech hanger as well as a regular one. You can also fettle the clutch with an Allen key! Price: £149.99

  7. Am I asking a silly question by saying will I be able to get away with pairing the shifters with my 10speed mech. Or is it another buy the whole bloody lot again?

  9. According to a thread over on MTBR the XTR shifter and mech will work with the XX1 cassette………….

    What about backwards – anybody have any idea if you can use an XTR cassette on XX1 drive?
