Canfield Brothers drop into crankset market

Downhill strength, all-mountain weight, 155-170mm…

Designed to be a lightweight (as little as 737g with BB) alternative to the downhill cranks on the market, Canfield Brothers’ AM/DH Cranks claim the “highest strength-to-weight ratio of any crankset.”  Forged from 7075 aluminium and mated to a 24mm GXP-compatible spindle for either 68/73mm or 83mm bottom brackets, the the Brothers’ cranks come in a number of (unusually short) lengths intended to maximise ground clearance on today’s low-slung gravity bikes.

Not just a styling exercise, the raised rib on the cranks’ face is designed to take the brunt of heel rub, keeping the black arms blacker longer.  Using a SRAM-compatible spider interface, the AM/DH cranks are compatible with the brand’s own double, triple, or XX1 spiders.  SRAM spiders will fit the interface, but will take a bit of filing to clear the arms.  Better still, the arms will take direct-mount chainrings like MRP’s Bling Ring and Wolftooth’s narrow-wide models, saving a good deal of weight while looking nice and tidy.

Absent UK distribution, the AM/DH cranks are available direct from the Canfield Brothers store.  155, 160, 165, and 175mm arm/BB combinations in either spindle length run $275 (£165), with spiders or Bling Ring options adding $50 (£30).

  1. looks like a good alternative to the big players, with good options, and having dealt with the guys at Canfield you can be sure a lot of thought has gone into producing these cranks.

  2. 155+160 lengths! Yes! At last DH cranks for those of us not bothered about the pedaling. Genius. A bit modern for my DH bike but if I built a new one these’d be on it.
