Bicycles as art

…but we all knew that they were lovely, right?

Now in Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei’s latest installation – entitled Forever Bicycles – features over 3,000 chrome bicycles lit with blue and pink lights.  Yong Jiu translates as “forever” is “the foremost bicycle brand in China-” though it’s not clear how much the company had to do with the sculpture or its naming.  In any case, the project looks stunning and might just inspire the city’s residents to view bicycles in a new…. light.

For those nearby, Forever Bicycles will be on display through October 27.  Here’s hoping that someone can make use of the frames and wheels on the 28th.
