It seems like the heaviest gauntlets thrown are the easiest to pick up. At least that’s how it appeared when a casual mention on the Singletrack website of riding Snowdon in February was picked up by a dozen enthusiastic riders.

It’s 5.40am It’s winter. In North Wales. It’s dark and chilly. I’m stood in a car park and wondering if I’m about to become an accident statistic – or make the local news at least. the sun isn’t due to rise for another two hours or so. And when it does, it’s unlikely to bring any warmth with it.
