It’s a question that keeps cropping up on our forum, so we thought we’d answer it in the medium of print: what bike for the Lake District? It’s a testing question as the Lakes combines a little bit of everything; big, big climbs, long distance pedalling and some truly testing descents. The attributes required read like an engineer’s Holy Grail: light weight, pedalling performance and high speed, technical descending capability.
We picked a trio of bikes and took them to the Cumbrian outdoor playgrounds to put them through their paces. You can read the full test in Issue 77 but exclusively for our subscribers, here are the video extra bits from that review….

Maybe just the edit but the liteville looks bloomy fast compared to the other two!
Yes, judging these videos in a definitively conclusive way that only a STWer can do, I declare the Liteville the winner.
The lovely green colour of the Orange gets a special merit award.
Mine makes me feel fast!!! 🙂
But is faster better? 🙂
where were they ridden? Or do I have to read the article to find out?
Looks like a trail back end of Far Sawery!
Thought a proper Lakes trail bike would be taken up a bloody great big climb, half ridden half on your back.
So where did you guys test these bikes?
Well spotted Rich! Back end of Far Sawrey, then over to Grizedale, around Lawson Park and then Loughrigg Fell/Ivy Crag before the light failed.
