Do the Mary Townley Loop Challenge for the MRT

Our local mountain rescue team is organising an event around our local long distance bridleway. Seemed sensible to let you know about it then! Remember to pack lots of sandwiches…

Once again Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team (the team who respond to incidents at Lee Quarry) are hosting the Mary Townley Loop MTB Challenge. Bookings are being taken now. You’ll have a fantastic 47 mile day out and help the team into the bargain!

With 23 years as Editor of Singletrack World Magazine, Chipps is the longest-running mountain bike magazine editor in the world. He started in the bike trade in 1990 and became a full time mountain bike journalist at the start of 1994. Over the last 30 years as a bike writer and photographer, he has seen mountain bike culture flourish, strengthen and diversify and bike technology go from rigid steel frames to fully suspended carbon fibre (and sometimes back to rigid steel as well.)

  1. even tho its signposted you can still get lost on this challenge..
    we did it a few weeks back a group of us went with the pennine bridleways ranger so he took us round …. and thankgod for the van that met up with us periodically so we could top up our camelbaks and put those energy tablets in our water…. great day out.

  2. You can get a train to Rawtenstall, or you could get one to Rochdale or Todmorden and ride over the hill – which’ll add 8-10 miles to it…
