Singletrack Classic Weekender – The Race Plate Explained

You see those fives boxes on the left hand side? That’s where your “Classic Trials” score will be recorded. If you clear an obstacle successfully you’ll get a hole punched in the respective box.

So if you see anyone with five holes punched in the race plate on Saturday night, they’ve aced the “Classic Trials”. If you see someone with an intact race plate – they haven’t done so well.

Each failed obstacle results in 1 minute being added to your XC time. So if you mess up all five obtacles you’ll have 5 minutes added to your XC time on Sunday.

But don’t worry, almost all the obstacles are quite straightforward. There’s only really one that’s genuinely a bit tricky.

  1. So, you get a hole if you clear it? So, I fail all fiv, walk off with an intact plate and quietly punch 5 holes. I’m suddenly a riding god. Clearly you lot are not so stupid as to have left that abuse open?

  2. We’ll be using special punchers (like they use in Orienteering) 🙂

And a referee-with-clipboard pen-and-paper record of your performance will also be taken.

  3. Glad to see you’re coming up to race there Al…

You’ll be checked in and out.
And hey, it’s just for fun remember?

  4. Surely, swapping it all around and adding the hole for a fail would be a better option and easier to avoid cheats. A clean sheet results in a clean number board.
